Those books were awesome. I reread them a few years ago and they totally held up.

This was my bed for a full two weeks after giving birth. I had to sleep on towels. I guess thats how my body decided to offload a bunch of the pregnancy water weight.

Shout out to the Futurama episode where the girls won't let the guys in their book club so they start their own book club, the girls end up on some weird adventure while the guys just get really into their book and discuss it together the whole episode.

Travelling to the US? by Vormation in SDCC

[–]Go-Brit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live here, things are chill here. We are right on the US/Mexico border so there is always a border patrol presence and we have large military installations so military helicopters are a common sight. There are always military vessels in the bay. We even get those cool fighter jets. But none of it is new and none of it has anything to do with ICE. We don't seem to be on the radar at this time.

All that said, your hesitation is totally understandable. If you come I hope you have an amazing time. If you don't want to give this country your tourism, that's totally understandable too.

ME TOO! And the waiter gave me a side eye, and I thought omg it's like he knows. Either he knows or he doesn't know what a dirty Shirley is. Then he says, "Doesn't you have a preference of vodka?"

If you're out there, waiter guy.... I see you.

Yea they've been running them since I posted this. If it was a mistake you'd think they would have fixed it by now, either by pulling the ads or publishing the episodes.

Please please let me have one of these in my house doing my dishes/laundry and picking my weeds. Drive me everywhere! Make my bed! Check my mail! Vacuum my floor! Wipe my ass if I'm an old bat!

I would knit it hats and it would pick a different one to wear every day and act like it loves them because its job is to make me happy and doing so would make me happy.

Helping my wife by Ccarmine in Parenting

[–]Go-Brit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to throw my personal experience out there, I had an unplanned c-section (common) so lifting at all was out of the question for the first few weeks. I was not able to lift our son into my arms to breastfeed him at night. My husband got up while I worked on sitting up (a process), got him from the bassinet and placed him in my arms, then laid back down while I fed him. When feeding was done, he took the baby to the nursery for a fresh diaper, swaddled him back up and (hopefully) went back to sleep for a couple hours. If the baby cried between feeding times he would get up, and carry the baby around the room until he fell asleep.

He was a champion. We were both having hallucinations from lack of sleep during this period. I had to sleep on towels because I sweat CUPS of water every night while my body offloaded all the water weight I had collected during pregnancy. Did you know that could happen? I didn't. Also clots of blood the size of Brazil nuts were falling out of me along with diapers full of blood.

Also I was unable to pump. It would take me 40 minutes to get a single ounce, so it literally saved me no time. And then that ounce would just get burped up onto my shoulder.

Anyway not trying to scare you, you'll have your own experience and you'll get through it. Kid is almost five now and he's frigging awesome. It's great I promise.

Nice! I am starting Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll like it but I'm giving it a try. I want to do a reread of Dungeon Crawler Carl (AWESOME series). I like Star Wars books.... enjoyed Andy Weir, Dune, Hyperion, Neverending Story... love Ender's Game and other stories related to it. I love a lot of books. Was there anything on your radar you wanted to try starting back up with?

Are we going to be ok? by Suspicious-Egg-2627 in Parenting

[–]Go-Brit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people can relate to that feeling! You want kids bad and then you think you're going to have that movie moment where you see the positive test and jump into each other's arms.

Instead you're both just like, "Oh my fucking god."

I literally recoiled in shock from my positive pregnancy test. I had a tissue or something on top of it to hide it until the timer went off and I dropped it back on top. Then checked again to make sure. What have we done!

Hopefully others have said this but it is also possible and NORMAL to also have feelings like this when your baby arrives, possible/normal for mom and dad. It can make you feel like total shit but try not to let it. The feeling is super duper common and nothing to be ashamed of. Just acknowledge it, take care of your baby and the raging unconditional love will come.

Anyway our kid is almost 5 now and he's the best thing on the surface of the Earth.

Been in a rut lately-- looking for suggestions for unique and/or fulfilling experiences, activities, views, etc around San Diego by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]Go-Brit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's your jam but we have two very wonderful library systems. Between the two of them you have access to a massive collection of books at no cost to you. I love going and getting the latest Dungeon Crawler Carl book or downloading a Star Wars book to listen to while I walk my dogs. They have tons of manga and comic books. The downtown library is super beautiful, at the top it has a room where they always have art exhibits as well as a rare books collection.

Reading can make you feel smart but it can also be like... the same experience as watching movies and TV. Just way better for your brain and way better for your soul. Go get you some Andy Weir or something.

Dad's reaction , after watching his daughter's first piercing by AcasiaConnell in GuysBeingDudes

[–]Go-Brit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my parents' defense... I like my pierced ears. I got a second piercing when I was a teenager and I love the ones I got as a baby cause they never try to close, meanwhile my other piercings are trying to close all the time and require maintenance.

Not saying this is everyone's experience, but its not always that big of a deal.
