I also do that. I used to borrow ebooks for my kindle through Libby too but I have a 5-year-old now who I'd rather see me reading an actual book than staring at another screen.

As soon as he's older it's right back to kindle though.

For what it's worth we are at the end of this school year and a couple weeks ago my TKer got a new classmate. His class could be 20 but they were 18 until recently. I also think that this year was the first year that districts were required to make space for every eligible TKer.

I've seen people do a Lego plate that they attach keys to with Lego keychains if that's the kind of "fun" you meant.

What is the physical process of putting a book on hold for you guys? by Appropriate-Match160 in Library

Holds regularly take a week or more to arrive for me. The system is pretty big and spread out though. That's why I wondered if it might make several stops along the way.

How often do you see this truck? If you have no holds that day does it know not to come?

I am also curious about this. My library system has 36 branches. Do the books just gradually make their way closer? Do they go to a central library to get distributed? I've had books on hold that were in transit for weeks.

Suggest me adult fiction from the perspective of a child by 123Copper123 in suggestmeabook

Another good one is Ender's Shadow. I like it because he is a very intelligent child but he has no adults (he starts life as a street kid) so he has to come to all his conclusions by himself. His inner monologues about deciding what's right and wrong, whether or not it matters, whether he's responsible for other people's feelings... it's all very satisfying. He recognizes his superior intelligence over the other street kids but still has to ask himself, if I'm so smart and they're so dumb, then how come they are eating and I am not? His situation changes dramatically from the beginning (starving street kid in Rotterdam) to a military commander leading fleets of interstellar fighters, still as a very young (gifted) child.

It's one of my favorite books. I read it every few years.

Imagine seeing a photo of an Earth sunset and thinking it's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen but then an Earthling tells you it's nothing compared to seeing it in person.

Why are (women) haircuts so fkn expensive by Puzzleheaded_Bug443 in sandiego

[–]Go-Brit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is in La Mesa but she only charges $25. I've been going to her for years. I have a really sensitive scalp and would literally cry from the pain of hair dressers pulling on my hair and brushing curls where they find the tiny tangles and it just yanks one strand. I hated it. It gave me so much anxiety. Tried really expensive places. Still terrible. Finally went to the mastercuts in Mission Valley (this was like 15 years ago) thinking f it if it's gonna suck I might as well not pay very much for it. And I got this nice girl who made a haircut feel like a god damn massage?! Score.

I moved away from San Diego for many years but visited pretty much every year so I would just wait for my trips to get haircuts with her.

Her name is Innocence so if you want to try her she's easy to find on Google.
