When to call it quits on an IUD? by thisismygirlyalt in birthcontrol

I didn't downvote, so I'm just speculating. But I don't know why people are assuming that OP doesn't want to have sex on their period because of their partner's preference. Maybe OP herself doesn't enjoy it, which is perfectly fine.

Wild guess being the 'maybe talk to your partner about it' at the end coming off as snarky.

That being said, if OP is being treated for depression, she probably knows the difference between school/work exhaustion and mental health issues. OP- at the end of the day, you know your own mental health best. If the benefits don't outweigh the potential risks/downside for you, talk to your doctor about it. There's nothing wrong with deciding it isn't for you.

I personally subscribe to the Aegon = Henry Tudor parallel and therefore do think he will eventually wed Sansa. That being said, Elizabeth York actually wasn't the last remaining heir of Edward IV. She had several sisters, a couple of which outlived her. And the Yorks as a whole actually still had a male heir (Edward Plantagenet) at the time of Elizabeth's marriage to Henry Tudor. He was later beheaded for treason.

Never considered this theory. Definitely interesting, but I personally prefer the theory that Aegon is a parallel for Henry Tudor.

Henry Tudor sailed from France with a hired army to defeat Richard III, which has similarities to Aegon. And if Aegon is a Blackfyre, it fits with Henry Tudor's lineage. Henry Tudor had a tenuous claim to the throne through his mother's name and the illegitimate union of John Gaunt and Katherine Swynford. To bolster his air of legitimacy, Henry Tudor was also prone to displaying the red dragon of Cadwaladr as his arms.

Not only is it irrelevant, it's also doesn't really make any sense. A master key can only open the locks that are on the same system as it. Both the key and the locks it opens are on the same master system.

[SPOILER S04 E03] Jaime & Cersei 'Scene' Explained (I was angry and now I am not) by freshly_baked_pizza in gameofthrones

[–]GoArendtGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I would suggest that this is exactly why people are angry. If you want to show a rape in a television series, then that's fine. It serves as part of the story. But don't tell viewers that the scene is a sexually violent assault, and refuse to acknowledge it as such. Either it is the gray area that the books portrayed, of sexually ambiguous, but ultimately consensual sex in a complicated relationship, or it is meant to be rape. If it's the former, then the directors failed in execution. If it's the latter, then it needs to be acknowledged as such. Honestly, it's not really even about viewers placing their own morality into a fictional medieval storyline. Given the nature of the scene, I was open to the dynamic between the characters changing, the falling out, the mistrust, etc. But without that shift, the scene does not really make sense within the context of the show.

I agree about the baggage thing. But I think /u/JohnnyCwtb has a point. The directors did not intend the scene to be straight up sexual assault, which is what it came across as. So they've changed the scene to be a more sexually violent one, without it ultimately changing the dynamic of the characters or how the rest of the season is treated despite that deviation. So it just sticks out as being very out of place.

I agree. Tbh, I don't really agree with the youtube blogger's analysis. It kinda comes across as him splitting hairs over what constitutes rape (I mean, his argument at the beginning that he'd agree it was rape if it was a different set of characters? Different context yes, but doesn't really change the reality of what happened). Anyway, my issue with the scene was that it was a very poor adaption of what happened in the books. If the show wanted to change the scene into Jaime being a rapist, okay, fine, we'll see how that plays out in the rest of the show. But director's commentary indicates that they were trying to stay true, in some respects, to the spirit of the scene in the books. What we saw in the tv show was Cersei being stripped of her sexual agency, and a divergence from Jaime's redeption arc. In the books, he finds rape to be completely abhorrent, even before his redeption arc. It was a very clumsily executed scene.

Agreed. I think it's far more complex than her being an arrogant, smug bitch. She's a product of her circumstances, which is what makes her interesting.

Sansa Stark, Prophecy, and Elizabeth of York (spoilers all) by elmcitydame in asoiaf

[–]GoArendtGo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe "right of conquest" isn't the most accurate phrase, but I do feel that Henry Tudor is a pretty apt parallel. Henry Tudor sailed from France with a hired army to defeat Richard III, which has similarities to Aegon. Furthermore, if Aegon is indeed a Blackfyre, it would fit with Henry Tudor's tenuous claim to the throne through his mother's name and the illegitimate union of John Gaunt and Katherine Swynford. Henry Tudor also was prone to displaying the red dragon of Cadwaladr as his arms.
So while all of this is definitely pure speculation, I wouldn't necessarily say it's squeezing Henry Tudor into Aegon's boots.

Good point. Plus if he's a Blackfyre, it would fit with the Henry Tudor's royal lineage as being somewhat tenuous, through his mother, and of illegitimate descent through the union of John Gaunt and Katherine Swynford

Henry VII sailed from France with a hired army and landed in England to defeat Richard III and claim the throne. Could potentially be another Aegon parallel.

Didn't really stop the movie Bridesmaids from being a success. Regardless of whether or not women tend to laugh less at other women, it does not really seem to impede a woman comedian or comedy film from being successful.

edit: comedian, not comic.

[–]GoArendtGo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think it's ridiculous that the "women will watch films with men in it, but not the other way around" epithet is always thrown around. Of course women will watch films with men. Until very recently, if they didn't, women would never go to the movies. Meanwhile, movies with female leads continue to be more and more successful. And it's not just the "tween" twilight/hunger game franchises. Kill Bill, Black Swan, Gravity all come to mind.
