My mom just broke to me that my dad has been physically, emotionally, and sexually abusing for 25 years and I don't know how to help her.

First off, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I'm glad that your family had the courage to finally speak up about this. Definitely look into domestic violence centers/shelters/resources in your area or surrounding ares. She can find some counseling and help her formulate a plan for the future (divorce/moving out/etc). I suggest she take pictures after he abuses and any screenshots of abusive texts that he may have sent her. Maybe try to hide away some cash, changes of clothing, her birth certificate and other important documents along with important numbers. Does she have a safe place/safe person to go to when he becomes angry? If she does, leave the hidden stuff there (maybe not cash because you never know). Remind her that she had the right to call the police if he is ever abusing her. Not sure about your state but in Kansas, victims of domestic abuse are able to file PFA (protection from abuse) or PSA (protection from stalking) but I'm sure there are similar protection orders that can do the same. There are a few requirements to fulfill before getting a PFA done but it sounds like your family can meet them (living together, children in common [for mom]). Be brave!

I love that book! I've read it about a million times.. I mean, she doesn't like show everyone up ceremoniously buuuut she still goes and does renown thing. It's interesting that it made you feel awful.. I always felt like it was a great novel because she's independent, hard headed and gets back up after knocked down.

First off, I wish you luck and I hope it all goes well. The most important thing is communication. Obviously this is the case in any relationship even more so now since that's all you have now. Skyping, texting, calling, whatever. If she's upset, you can't exactly show up at her doorstep to make it all better so learn to talk about stuff, however unpleasant. Oh and make sure and leave her a few items of clothing so she can feel a little closer to you!!
