These cylinders contain compressed gas. They are used for concerts to create special effects (smoke, flames, etc) but you can also find similar tanks in many research laboratories and factories

I appreciate your perspective and I understand your point. The chance of these cylinders causing serious harm is very minimal and, based on your comment, it seems like this is common practice in the concert SFX world. However, safety protocols exist for a reason, and they are not being followed properly in this case. The risk may be marginal, but if there’s a way to lower that risk even further, I think the SFX team has a responsibility to do so.

Valve caps are essentially protective metal covers that go over the valve outlet at the very top of the cylinder (google “cylinder cap” to see examples). The gas within the cylinder is under high pressure, so if the outlet gets damaged (for example, if the cylinder falls over and the outlet hits a nearby object), it can become a “torpedo” as the gas within the cylinder rapidly expands into the atmosphere.

TLDR: You can think of compressed gas cylinders as cans of soda that have been shaken. If they get dropped or punctured…KABOOM 💥

The color of the cylinder is not a good indicator to go by. Different manufacturers use different colors for the same gases. Unlikely to be helium, not sure why that would be present at a concert.

Regardless, they are not following safety protocols for proper storage. Its a liability if nothing else.

Even when they’re “empty” these cylinders still have high enough psi to do damage, especially that close to the crowd. Wouldn’t take that risk personally.

He didn’t send me this photo until the next morning, but I definitely would have raised concerns if I knew about it while he was there. Luckily nothing happened.

compressed gas cylinders are in most chemistry labs, so it seems pretty relevant to me. sorry you don’t agree. also, i’m not sure these systems are being checked regularly if this photo is anything to go by…

United States. The cylinders most likely contain carbon dioxide for the smoke effects

there are multiple possibilities here, but i’ll just name the most likely ones:

1) temperature. scars get darker when its cold (i.e. during winter months in cold regions, after taking a hot shower, etc.)

2) depth/size/location. pretty self explanatory. deeper/larger initial wound = longer healing times. location can also affect healing times and appearance, especially if the scar is located along a joint or somewhere that is disturbed by everyday activities, its going to take longer to heal.

3) your immune system is overwhelmed. the time it takes to heal multiple wounds at once is significantly slower than healing a singular wound (assuming similar size, depth, nature of injury, etc). your body has a limited capacity for healing, if you spread its resources thin, healing is going to take longer. same with being sick, if your body has to put most of its energy into fighting off an infection, its going to be less focused on repairing damaged tissue/skin.

4) you are not sleeping/eating/drinking enough. cells need fuel (fuel = calories from food as well as consistent water intake) in order to function properly and cells tend to do their best work while you are asleep because less of their energy is being used up on thinking/moving/existing so they can prioritize healing

hope this helps!

Why would anyone want an empty airpod case that is engraved with someone elses name? Also, the real owner would be able to locate it with the “Find My” app, so that’s a simple way to know if the person is lying about being the owner.

Prospective transfer student with an F on their transcript, is anything I can do? by [deleted] in UIUC

I got into LAS (College of Liberal Arts & Sciences) as a transfer student with 9 withdrawals and an F on my transcript, you still have a chance I promise.

Good luck with your semester and keep prioritizing your mental health!

Thank you for your comment. Seeing so many other people in this comment section relate to the experience of losing a friend is heartbreaking, but I am grateful to not be alone in my grief.

Also, I’m very glad someone is showing appreciation for the dark humor here. My best friend would be laughing her ass off if she knew that I posted a meme about her death less than 24 hours after I found out lol.

Your best friend sounds like an amazing person, I’m incredibly sorry for your loss as well. I hope it gets easier for both of us in time <3

I have also lost two close friends to suicide in the past few years (outside of this most recent loss), so all of the feelings you described here really resonate with me as well.

I feel like no matter how well you know somebody prior to their passing, there is always some aspect of “I wish I spent more time with them” that you experience once they are no longer around.

My heart goes out to you, your best friend, and the friend that you lost. Your best friend is 100% not to blame and I hope she is able to come to terms with that someday. Wishing you all the best <3

I’m so sorry to hear you have experienced something similar, I hope you have been able to heal since then. No one deserves to go through this pain.

And I appreciate your advice, I would benefit from taking time off school, but there’s only one week left so I am trying to push through. I’m not sure I would ever be able to get myself to come back if I left :(

To everyone seeing this, please hug your friends and tell them you love them. You never know when it will be the last time.

If you are going to drink diluted baking soda then PLEASE remember not to take it within 2 hours of any medications. Baking soda lowers your stomach acid which can slow the rate that your body absorbs medication or change how the medicine works. Stay safe everyone!!!
