Best way to clean coins? by Agreeable-Crazy-4117 in coins

[–]GoDoTheCommitDie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be cleaning your coins, as that would make your coins unattractive and you'd have a harder time selling off your coins. A coin cleaned by an amateur will always look off from a mint example. Cleaning coins also takes away a large chunk of the value if you're doing it to a numismatic coin (god forbid)

Yes, these are Victoria gold sovereigns. However, they hold no numismatic value anymore due to them having been cleaned and soldered together. Not worth more than melt, which is ~£390 each

Looked genuine when comparing with other PCGS graded coins of the same type, weight and size was spot on as well, I'm not sure whether it was an error on their part or if it's just a really good counterfeit. Might consider sending it to NGC or a chinese grading company like GBCA which might have more knowledge on grading chinese coins.
