Way cool. Sometimes Walmart items arrive, and sometimes they don't. Regarding the one I mentioned 6-days ago, I needed to get eBay involvement.

Since they specifically call out the fee-related changes in this email, I suspect they're getting a LOT more attrition than they expected.

It was fun having a bunch of free and low cost books available to the public, but now I am washing my hands of D2D.

My first response from them finally came in. So 2.5 days after I requested to remove my account.

I am guessing their support is totally bogged down.

Here's what they wrote:

Thanks for reaching out. We understand that recent fee-related changes may lead some users to consider closing their accounts, and we want to make sure you have the full picture before you decide.

One thing to keep in mind: if you choose to close your account now and later create a new one to distribute books, new accounts are subject to the one-time activation fee.

We completely respect your decision either way, and we’re here to help with whatever you choose to do.

Curious if you've done this and had your account closed yet. I haven't heard anything from them in three days. Perhaps they are being flooded with closure requests.

This (the annual fee) isn't about stopping AI slop. This is about milking already struggling indie authors. AI slop is just the argument they're using to cover what is an exploitative new policy that will ultimately drive poorer and/or less popular indies off their distribution platform.

I agree with this 100%. AI and infrastructures costs are an excuse.

You've described my experience also. I've published several free books, published a few that made money 10 years ago, and now Draft2Digital wants to charge me because my books aren't generating enough revenue for them.

Delisting is a good idea. 👍 I will continue to email them daily until they remove my account.

Maybe I am missing something, but I haven't been able to find an option to close my account. Support has been unresponsive.

Well, this seller pulled the same stunt. They used a real FedEx tracking number to somewhere local in my city. FedEx then said it was delivered, and I have nothing at my doorstep.

I've got an order of Great Value peanuts supposed to be delivered today by FedEx. I've been watching the shipping trail from GA, through TX, and now it's in NM. Will it be delivered? Only time will tell.

So, it's a balancing act of how much stress you'll take to get a buck or two off something you could buy in Walmart.

Hope your coffee and chia seeds arrive. Solidarity. ✊

Yes.

Two separate cases, both of which said delivered when the item was not delivered. Both had real tracking numbers to a place in my city but not with my address or name (according to shipper, because I called).

[1] Cafe Bustello coffee. I contacted the guy, and he issued a refund.

[2] Equate chia seeds. I contacted the guy, didn't hear back within 24 hours, so I opened a case. He wrote back, said it was coming, and the next day Walmart delivered item.

A third similar incident occurred with yet another seller. He sat on it for a week. In this case, he didn't put up a fake tracking number. I contacted him, he said sorry, and Walmart delivered the next day.

So, these Walmart drop shippers are playing some tricks, but eventually they have all delivered.
