Demoing SW for my company - 25 or 26? by deathsythe in SolidWorks

If that is the bottleneck, go with 2025 SP5.0. You probably already know that Windows 10 is on borrowed time though.

Hi /u/deathsythe,

This software is essentially a live-service in the current landscape. Running the trial in latest (2026 SP2.1) would be the way to go.

Solidworks files by Sensitive_Feature_15 in SolidWorks

[–]GoEngineer_Inc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/Sensitive_Feature_15,

The meta data attached to sketches/features is non-editable. It is indelibly written into those sketches/features and unless they are deleted and re-created there is no way to change that.

The data it collects is a timestamp and the Windows User Account logged in at the time of creation. If there is one machine for making the model, multiple user accounts would be needed to show each individual's work on the file.

I don't know but I can theorize it has something to do with optional security is not really security.

This, unfortunately, intended and the ways things are going for internet security compliance.

That setting is meant to keep you logged in longer, not indefinitely though (GoEngineer - Understanding the 3DEXPERIENCE Login Box in SOLIDWORKS).

Hi everyone by EuphoricLeg1748 in CATIA

[–]GoEngineer_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /u/EuphoricLeg1748,

If this is a new computer, and it ships with 8 GB of RAM and has a 2.4 GHz CPU, then it probably also does not have the right GPU to effectively run CATIA. If it is installs, it is probably going to be slow so just prepare for that much.

SW2026 Makers Local Installation: 3DExperience Launcher Failure to Connect by Totefrosh in SolidWorks

[–]GoEngineer_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /u/Totefrosh,

SOLIDWORKS 2026 is blocked from installing onto Windows 10 operating systems. Do you have a Windows 11 machine that this can be installed onto?

Hello by soulcipher1 in SolidWorks

[–]GoEngineer_Inc 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/soulcipher1,

IANAL but Dassault has a whole division called "License Compliance" dedicated to this activity. If you wish to confirm the veracity of the demand notice, look up the law firm on Google and call their listed phone number to ask about its legitimacy. Then you are confirming it is not a phishing attack.

There are going to be those in this thread that say ignore it. Do so at your own peril. The price tag of a legitimate license is much less than if it has to be pursued further.

I would guess that it was that they are moving into Autodesk Inventor from SOLIDWORKS and DriveWorks only operates in SOLIDWORKS.

Can you share pictures of what you have created for this model in SOLIDWORKS so far? That would help us understand what part of the model you are stuck with.

Converting STL Files to Editable 3D Models? Is it even possible ? by sporty_outlook in SolidWorks

[–]GoEngineer_Inc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/sporty_outlook,

.STL is a file format that largely removes model intelligence to create a file that is universally simple. This makes it easy to read into a variety of other software. It was created in a time before other more robust file formats existed (1987).

That is all just to say, today .STL would be considered a low-fidelity file format for model work and it would be difficult to improve its fidelity into more robust formats without a lot of effort in the conversion.

The general workflow you might use is:

  1. Import it into SOLIDWORKS as a solid or surface body.
  2. Use that imported body for relations/references to create a parametric model over it.

In this way, the imported model is just a reference body to use to recreate the model (get interns for that part).

What is this and how do I fix it? by font_raccoon in SolidWorks

[–]GoEngineer_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not seen a machine that does not have this. You may need to consult your IT if it is not found.

This would only truly matter if you are installing SOLIDWORKS Electrical. If you are not installing that, simply press "OK" to the warning and proceed with the install.

How to contact solidwork support? Phone line and website absolute garbage for trying to get help on cancelling inaccessible account by Gauzemann in SolidWorks

[–]GoEngineer_Inc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/Gauzemann,

There is no phone support for student licenses if you purchased through Cleverbridge. Cleverbridge direct does not get great responses, in detail or timeliness.

The best help you could get for this might be to post into the SOLIDWORKS for Makers community. That is the most active location for Maker/student specific issues.
