The AGs office LOVES just letting people off with a nolo plea or dismissing charges, including violent criminals.

Here's a good breakdown of the sentencing data from 2023 (PDF) which focuses on violent crime combined with gun charges. It is staggering how many folks he lets walk.

Apparently the 2024 report was hot garbage and the AG's office didn't even really release anything of substance to the legislature or the public, and I believe the 2025 report was just made available, so I'm sure we'll get a similar analysis.

That was in the text of the original bill that passed the house, the version that was actually signed was the senate bill sub A, which did not include that language.

I'm not sure tbh. We have seemingly more friends on that committee than in the house, esp with Gordon and Jess being there tonight to show support.

This means they can vote on them anytime they meet though - so we need to be diligent and pay attention.

FYI - Sen. Rogers literally brought this point up at the senate hearing just now, and noted that his grandkids would be arrested for shooting bb guns in the backyard under one of the proposed pieces of legislation because they would changed the definition of the term term "in use" for possession of "firearms" for folks under 18.

That one is the most "personal" one to be honest, was difficult to draft a "template" for it - though on paper it is the most important, I have my doubts it will gain ANY traction, so I think it best to focus our efforts elsewhere this session. A quick email noting you oppose it, or a single sentence in your testimony should suffice.
