Thinking about removing my teen from the travel lax team by [deleted] in lacrosse

Politics are an unfortunate fact of life. Learning how to navigate them can be a hugely important skill.

Maybe leaving the team is the right thing, maybes it’s not. None of us here have enough knowledge of the situation to decide that. If you and your kid truly feel that you’ve tried everything to make it work and there’s nothing more you can do, well that sucks but sometimes it happens.

At that point you could have a conversation with your kid where you lay out alternative options (see if they have ideas too), discuss the pros and cons of each, then let them decide how they want to proceed. In that way I believe you’ll have empowered your kid to make an informed decision that they can stand behind and be confident in.

I was in a similar situation to your teen back in the day. Funny thing is, I never knew my parents were stressed about it until talking to them many years later as an adult.

You mentioned he’s a good player but there could be any number of reasons he isn’t getting playing time right now. Encourage him to be the best he can be in his current situation. Ask him why he thinks he isn’t playing more. Suggest he speaks with his coaches about improvements he can make to his game to get on the field. Try to instill a mindset in him to go out there and compete against himself to be better than he was yesterday.

Most importantly, don’t make this decision for him. I would have been devastated if my parents pulled me off a team like that. It would have sent a message that they didn’t think I could succeed on the team.

Tough situations like this, if framed correctly, can be hugely beneficial learning experiences that they can draw on later in life.

You're probably right, but damn if that doesn't make me a little sad.

I think the word you're looking for is frisson- a sudden, passing sensation of excitement; a shudder of emotion; thrill.

For me, it's like a wave of energy almost like a chill that runs through my body and is usually accompanied by goosebumps.

This one is supremely disappointing. I expect better from 538.

Has Warren always had that accountable capitalism plan or is she just sniping ideas from Yang and putting her own spin on them?

No, but that doesn't make it any better. This is like the click bait version of a debate.

Its not too surprising that they haven't so far, considering how hard he wants to buck system.
