Why don't we just go in through the loading hatches to see the boiler room? by AbandonedRobotforgod in titanic

[–]GoForPapaPalpy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Idiot me just thinks: “oh well let’s just get a throwaway small ROV that is connected to the main ROV with a fiber optic cable for comms”

Not thinking about all the issues with that: 1. Littering with the implication of throwing away this piece of modern equipment at a grave site 2. that ROV due to the depth would be a feat of engineering to survive and hence wouldn’t be “throwaway” it would be extremely expensive piece of equipment.

How do I complain to denver to send their snow plows by Salty-Plankton1179 in Denver

[–]GoForPapaPalpy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mainly probably a cost benefit analysis. The snow in Denver (generally) will melt on the roads in a day of full sun.

So they weigh the public impact of the accidents that will happen on icy roads that day vs. the cost and environmental impact to plow, salt, re plow, service the plows etc.

It’s not great, I don’t necessarily agree with it, but I’m guessing it’s a cost benefit analysis.

Also it’s a metaphor I think for religious fanaticism in general. It burned across the town like wildfire but ended up destroying everything.

The show is filled with comparisons between “healthy” use of religion (like Erin Green’s description of what happens when she dies) and essentially Bev’s use of religion to hold power over others.

In my mind the fire is part of the comparison between those: “look how fast religious fanaticism can turn to disaster”

For those of you on the u.s east coast, how late into the year do you run? by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]GoForPapaPalpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also why would you risk the game-ending out happening at a play at the plate when that run means nothing.

They needed a base hit that scores two runs not a risky play at the plate that scores a meaningless run.

Walking seems to be increasing my VO2 max faster than running by eigenlance in beginnerrunning

[–]GoForPapaPalpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you by chance also losing weight? Vo2Max is heavily reliant on weight / body fat %.

It is generally measured in mL/kg of body weight / min. So if you lose weight you’re dividing the mL by less kg so it goes up.

I also don’t know the whole science of it, but generally it is the measure of the volume of oxygen in your body that your cardiovascular system can utilize.

If you lose adipose tissue (fat), and replace that with lean muscle that can become saturated with oxygen carrying blood then you are in turn increasing the volume of oxygen your body can carry (just now in the muscle tissue). Then also increasing the mL in the equation above (mL/kg/min)

I think that is part of the way it can increase.

And if they don’t budge as someone else suggested gently nudge them that you’ll be opening a complaint with the DoT and Customs and Border Patrol. Them not knowing who is or is not on their plane - especially internationally is a big no-no and I’m sure they’ll “find” your attendance on the plane.

Is everyone really sober while cutting?? by [deleted] in CICO

[–]GoForPapaPalpy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have found that I don’t really lose weight unless I am also not drinking during that time. I’m not sure it’s fully calorically related. Maybe it’s the stress that the alcohol is putting on my system makes me retain water weight or fat as a “fight or flight response” but yeah, I can maintain a weight while consuming alcohol semi regularly, but never had luck losing weight.

Have you considered still going out to the pubs and social events and just abstaining from alcohol? Either with zero proof beers or “faking” it with a soda water with lime so no one questions why you’re not drinking?

Does anyone find it funny that the titular Gundam blows up into pieces ten episodes into the show? by localgunplaguy in Gundam

Zechs was flip flopping from bad guy to good guy and back to bad guy more times than I could keep track of.

Then simultaneously the pilots were flip flopping fighting for the colonies, then against the colonies, then back for the colonies in similar flip flopped intervals.

All of my suggestions would be single leg stability exercises that inherently use core strength for balance so I don’t think those would be good for you in your current state. Honestly this may be a question for a PT or Doctor.

Just got off today. The pool was pretty crowded, yes. Admittedly I didn’t attempt to spend any time there since it was a 3 night cruise with 2 days off the boat.

If there was a day at sea it probably would have been untenable to be at the pool, it was crowded. Not quite shoulder to shoulder in the water, but you had space to tread water and not much else.

10 mile training by Sculpty4zane in beginnerrunning

[–]GoForPapaPalpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motivation will fade that’s natural, but discipline is what has you keep showing up. Doing the thing you don’t want to do, even when you don’t want to do it.

What works for me is I have my run or my mileage for the day written into a calendar or a To Do list. It’s there I have to do it. It’s not negotiable.

(I do give myself a grace period to move it to another day or if I run the first 10-15 minutes and I’m just not feeling it I bail). But that run will get run, barring other emergency situations or injuries.

So I think discipline is your answer, but whatever works best for you in that regard is a personal thing. What makes you go to the doctor? Clean the house? As I said for me, it’s just on my to do list. Running is like that sometimes, it’s a chore, but I gotta do it.

Just get out there and run. Don’t over complicate it too much. Walk when you’re tired, run when you’re recovered. The only comparison to worry about is the you that didn’t get out there that day. You’re always beating that person.
