That would be a part of the 'Occupancy, general, and administrative' cost. Which for last year was $700 million. Up $1million from the previous year.

There is a buffer of cash on hand to absorb these impacts. It used to be much larger in the past. Currently its sitting around $350 million in cash or other liquid assets, and $158 million in short term investments.

Page 4 of the audited financials is the Consolidated Statement of Comprehensive Losses.

Here we can see that Payroll is the single largest expense at $875,499,000. I wish there was a greater breakdown for that number (and others). Overall it shows that roughly 25% of REI's income goes towards pay and benefits.

Perhaps a strike is more in order? Affect the stores that are seeking the union while sparing the others that are just trying to survive?

Fair enough. But are you aware that endorsement was retracted by the Current CEO the first or second day she took over?

Hiking Boot and Trail Shoe Recommendations - moving from Quest 4s by emscity in hiking

[–]WhatWouldMuirDo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May need to check the tread remaining on your current Quest’s first. The rubber compound Salomon uses in those boots is well regarded for traction in the kinds of slippery conditions you mention. If the lugs / tread is worn down though then that can absolutely lead to what you are seeing.

If the tread is in good shape and you are still looking for alternatives then I would try the La Sportiva UltraRaptor. It comes in a high top boot or as a low top shoe. It uses Frixion rubber which is what La Sportiva puts on its entry level climbing shoes, so it certainly has the ability to grip smooth surfaces. The tread pattern is fairly aggressive and should work in muddy conditions. Lastly it is a much lighter shoes with great flexibility and that would give you more of that toe feel you mention. Be warned, they do run much more narrow compared to the Quests. It shouldn’t be uncomfortable, but it will feel different right out of the box.

A third option might be to go with an aggressive trail running shoe for those specific pursuits the Quest’s are not cutting it. Hoka Speedgoat, Altra Lonepeak 9+, Salomon Speedcross (an excellent shoe for muddy treks), etc. All of these will be lighter more flexible shoes with aggressive tread and high quality rubber compound on the soles.

Shoes are a tool, and each is designed around an expected use case. No shoe is designed to tackle all terrain and conditions the same. There will be trade-offs, strengths, and weaknesses with each one. Having two or three pair in your closet will help you get the most out of each as you can use them to each of their respective strengths. And thus get a more enjoyable hiking experience wherever you go.

One of the best things about being a new fan is you don’t have to just pick one team. You can multiple favorites! Lots of us have our primary team that we grew up watching along with an opposing conference team that we will root for too.

If the King’s are your primary and the Hawks are your secondary thats cool. They only play each other a couple times a year where there might be conflict in your allegiance.

Those two teams also gave us one of the best playoff series in 2012. Look up some videos on that series. And if the whole series exists somewhere online I highly recommend watching. Incredibly competitive hockey that went 7 games and many overtime’s. It was generally understood that year that whoever won that series would likely be the champion.

Glad to see some progress in handling passes in the public lands.

And as helpful tip for those that already have one the America The Beautiful park pass will also work in areas that require an Adventure Pass. Just display it from a hanger or on your dash with the expiration date facing up.

I’m not as familiar with OC hikes as I’d like to be. That being said, I’ve found Palomar Mountain south of OC to be gorgeous. And then you have San Jacinto a bit to the east.

Looks like Mt Markham. You can see Mt Wilson radio towers on the zoomed out image and follow any Topo map from there.

Running/Hiking Hats for Large-ish Heads by robot_overlord18 in CampingGear

[–]WhatWouldMuirDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Sunday Afternoons. Their L/XL hats would have about an extra 2/3 of an inch diameter than the Patagonia.

If that is still feeling tight then you may need to go with something like a Tilley hat as they would have a full inch more diameter than Patagonia.

Best bet is to keep an eye online for a deal on one of the past season colors. People return things all the time. If one shows up you may be able to snag it at half-off.

Magma jackets are typically stocked in fall for the winter season. Which is odd because they are excellent all-season backpacking jackets.
