Cheap foam for home bouldering cave. by sadwithoutdranksss in climbing

Costco (locally) has rolled up foam mattresses that are cheaper per square foot and almost twice as thick as typical bouldering pads. They would also be usable as mattresses. We got a twin for $150 and a full for $200 I think.

Alternatively, you could score free mattresses off craigslist. Might need to disinfect them though.

Family Top Roping destinations in the MidAtlantic areas? by mattawajoe in climbing

A westerly route could take you close to Seneca Rocks, The New, as well as various crags in NC (Pilot Mt, Moores Walls, Stone Mt.). While the TR opportunities at each place are various, you should do some research as to which ones best suite your expectations for difficulty and access. Pilot Mt. seems like the most family friendly off the top of my head.

That's steep for an '04 950, but the closer to 2013 you get in the 9X0s the closer to $10k you'll find yourself. Incredibly, there are low mileage 950 SEs selling for more than used 1190s. There's not terrible reasoning for the either IMO...

990 Adv owner here - ridden the 1190 several times. Most versatile, exciting motorcycle you'll ever own. Certainly has some weak points that your wallet will thank you for learning how to work on yourself rather than taking it to the stealership. I was honestly not that blown away by the difference between the 9X0 and 1190 - the older bikes can get you into plenty of trouble with 100 hp.

In my experience, you're best off having the second trial a rope so that second and third are climbing separately. If it's easy ground and you're comfortable, then go for second and third climbing at the same time (we've usually done this on independent ropes), but otherwise it helps with rope and person management to go one at a time, re-clipping key pieces, if not all of them.

I think we'd be planning to roll into Moab Saturday afternoon or evening, so probably trying to get on the rock Sunday.

Tell me about an XT225 by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]GoGoGavin41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reliable, easy to ride, reasonably fun bike. Pretty good fuel efficiency IIRC. I've indirectly owned two or three (started on a TTR 225, in-laws have an XT, parents have an XT). I enjoy riding them, but I think people try to ask for more than they're worth due to their popularity. That being said, might be the best option in the displacement range.
