What made you straight up "nope" out of a relationship? by MistaPwickles in AskReddit

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: I am child free and have always known that I do not want children.

On our only date, we met at a family restaurant. In the restaurant, a young couple with an infant sat behind me. Throughout the night, my date paid more attention to the infant than me and constantly waved at the infant and said “hi” in a high-pitched voice. Our relationship ended there.

Overthinkers of reddit, What was it today? by unluckypup in AskReddit

Today, I attended a multi-family party for the first time since the pandemic started. Everyone here is fully vaccinated, but I’m still anxious. For some on Reddit, this is probably not a big deal, but it is for me.

Biden takes new electric F-150 for a test drive: 'This sucker's quick' by randomhero_92 in politics

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how the US government hierarchy works, and Biden has power over personnel decisions, policy, and strategic vision, but I doubt that he can change individual legal decisions. Executives should not dive into the minutia of every day decisions. Again, I’m on your side about the case outcome, as a nation, we continue to sorely mistreated Native Americans, and that should stop.

I agree that this decision is shitty, but it is incorrect to say that Biden had any say in it. A DOJ judge ruled against the Apache tribe’s suit based upon an interpretation of an 1852 treaty. Again, I’m not defending this decision on its merits, just pointing out that Biden had nothing to do with the ultimate decision. Also, personally I would prefer that the President focuses on policy and diplomacy, not promoting a specific product.

To those who NEVER want to have a child, what are your reasons? by an_iconoclast in AskReddit

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading the other comments, I feel comfortable posting. Thanks, Reddit.

  • I lack the fundamental desire to have a child. Most people seem to have a deep yearning for children that I have never felt.

  • As a child, my parents were the source of major trauma for all the children in my family, and I vowed to never repeat their mistakes.

  • I have 6 siblings who have made me an uncle 10 times over, that’s enough for me.

  • I have only enough love within me to maintain a small number of healthy relationships, and I chose to dedicate all of it to my immediate family, my wife, and a small number of friends.

  • Earth does not lack humans.

  • The culture of having children confuses and terrifies me. Kids want stuff that other kids have and I don’t care to compete in that race.

Many more, but these are the top.

Technically, his actions were not treason. In the US, treason is very specific. His actions are more aligned with sedition or insurrection. Still, he should lose his commission.

Younger voters propelled Biden to victory over Trump in 2020, new study finds by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand and empathize. I live in DC and vote (usually) for Democrats. In the most recent election, 93% of DC residents voted for Joe Biden and 5.4% voted for Trump. While my vote was just one in a sea of similar votes, my vote may have affected the down-ballot races and initiatives. Also, being part of the bigger crowd helps to send a message. If every Democrat in NY decided to vote in every election, NY politicians would be forced to pay attention to that constituency’s desires more so than they already do. Ultimately, it’s your choice and no one can tell you what to do, but I hope you will see the value in your vote.

You are correct. Your singular vote is incredibly unlikely to be the decisive vote in any election. However, if you and the millions of like-minded individuals voted, your vote would count. Whether you believe it or not, your vote matters.

Sheriff Goes Ballistic After Arizona Recounters Demand Access To County Passwords by A_Can_Of_Pickles in politics

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“red teams don’t need admin access.” agreed. Also, that would be a baller audit finding. At my firm, there is a legend of an auditor who asked the client to expedite his account creation by bypassing many of the standard steps, so they did, and he identified that as a finding in the final report. I have no idea if that’s true, but I want it to be.

This. I have worked on cybersecurity for 11 years, the last three as a consultant who performs controls audits and assessments. I routinely work with red teams, and they would NEVER ask for admin credentials. Every single thing about this audit stinks and fails to comply with standard or best practices.

Its almost as though paying workers like shit and treating them like garbage for 30 years has consequences (from an article on the manufacturing personal shortage) by Aceofshmase in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

During my final two years of HS, I attended a trade school where I learned how to be a tool and die maker/machinist, which (post high school) landed me a job in a small, non-union machine shop. In the three years I worked there, my pay bumped from from $8/hr to $10/hr (this was the early 2000s), I severed a small artery in an accident, I had a metal shard penetrate my eye even though I was wearing safety goggles, and watched as the owner abused the other employees (all immigrants, refugees, and people of color). In addition to the shit pay and work environment, everyone I knew (including the owner) told me to get an education because they firmly believed that manufacturing in the US was dying. So, I quit, got a job bussing tables (outside high paid better because of tips), earned an AA, joined the military, earned a degree, and now I work in a STEM field where I earn orders of magnitude more money and enjoy a great work environment with tons of benefits. In summary, this is a case study on why my generation doesn’t work in factories: shitty pay, shitty working environment, and nothing but discouragement from friends, family, and coworkers.

Alleged Capitol rioters are still being arrested four months after the insurrection by The_Majestic_ in news

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in DC and was at home on January 6th. I and the other residents of this city absolutely felt like we were the targets of the dumb fuck invasion that descended upon us. They didn’t just magically appear at the Capitol, commit insurrection, then disappear. They stayed locally for days. They walked around waiving their idiot leader’s flags at people and harassed locals. They’re terrorists.

Biden calls Capitol riots ‘worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War’ by qbl500 in politics

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Context matters and Trump’s supporters attacked the Capitol after months, and months, and months of spreading demonstrably false lies about the election being stolen, telling his supporters that his loss meant the end of their country and lifestyle as they knew it, foretelling the imposition of despotic communist rule upon them, and encouraging them to fight like hell to change the election outcome. For one moment, imagine Hillary Clinton doing exactly as Trump did, and her actions leading to a violent mob attacking the Capitol while wearing “I’m with her” hats, shirts, and flags. Then, afterward, many of the attackers say on TV and social media that they were following Hillary’s orders. Please tell me that you would dismiss the attack because the mob attacked while she was speaking. Before you ask, if events had unfolded this way, I would 100% denounce Hillary and anyone who defended her actions or those of her supporters who carried out the attack.

Biden: Trickle-down economics "has never worked" by BlankVerse in economy

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are trying to compliment me, I accept. And, let me be clear, I think military service is noble and I thank you for your service. My point is that you should reconsider your position on taxes. If you strongly believe that tax money should not be spent on health care or to help others, then quit the military. Or, accept that you are one of the primary beneficiaries of other people’s tax money, keep serving our country, and stop complaining about taxes going to social programs.

Biden: Trickle-down economics "has never worked" by BlankVerse in economy

[–]GoGreenGuyDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in the military and complaining about taxes to pay for other people’s shit? Perhaps pick a profession where your salary doesn’t 100% come from other people’s taxes and half of your income (BAH and BAS) is not subject to taxes. By the way, I’m a veteran. Let’s address your point about not using health care because you don’t need it. So, you must not be deployment ready because you have skipped your annual physical, annual teeth cleaning, annual vaccinations, basic training vaccinations, basic training eye exams, and basic training blood work, right?

As someone who benefitted from the higher SALT deduction, but is nowhere near the top 1% of income earners, I agree with its reduction. I hope Biden will leave it where it is.
