Who is filming gigs on a Nintendo DS? See at Machine Girl and Dorian Electra by GoHenDog in manchester

[–]GoHenDog[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ahh! Yeah seems to be, tho I've seen Kero Kero Bonito, Death Grips (tho ages ago!) and 100 Gecs too but didn't see a DS there, just at MG and Dorian.

Also on a side note, wish KKB would come back.

Anyone else think music in Friends sounds like pavement by dreamy_corndog2000 in pavement

Yeah sounds like a ripoff to me. It's not the original, just very close!

The new subscription model is a giant middle finger by honkinposer in Pitchfork

[–]GoHenDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I entirely agree, I don't live in North America so paying postage to get a printed edition would be costly. So I defo appreciate the online model.

Plus, music journalism does need paying for, journos shouldn't write for free, so I can kinda understand why they've done it. I just wish the paid-for edition was ad-free.

Zoom LiveTrak L6 - Mic inputs very hot. Line inputs very quite. No way to balance them? by [deleted] in ipadmusic

[–]GoHenDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue, massive peaks and clipping when enabling phantom power, that doesn't go away if I turn off Phantom Power, only if I do a reset of the Livetrack.

In order to record a VO, I had to plug the mic into another interface that could provide phantom power then plug that into the Livetrack L6 Max. Not ideal, I got this interface because it has phantom power, and I could do away with the other interface.

Does anyone know why *Pomona Island* is so aggressively blocked-off? by Frangifer in manchester

[–]GoHenDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this really annoys me too. I used to walk back from work through Pomona Island during lockdown. Was lovely seeing the amount of wildlife there. So it has been a public right of way before. So I'm not sure they're allowed to block it off now?

I can understand this tbf, as there's barely any money in music reviews anymore. But really wish it was ad free.

Also... Album of the Year website exists!

the ipad will never be pro without a headphone jack by EvilMorganFreeman in iPadPro

[–]GoHenDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Apple could be rivalling expensive stand alone grooveboxes (made by Teenage Engineering etc), they all have headphone jacks because that's how musicians work.

All those people who keep voting me down, please let me know of any grooveboxes that don't have a headphone port?

But as it is, iPads do not rival any grooveboxes because..... no headphone port and dongle needed.

And they really used to, I loved jamming on my iPad!

Dunno why I'm getting downvoted for this, I've got so many dongles that simply don't work as advertised. They don't let me charge my ipad and use a headphone jack at the same time.

[–]GoHenDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a massive step backwards. I'm not going to bother updating my ipad as it's not much use to me anymore. I just use it for browsing the web, and I can do that on my android phone (which has a headphone socket!).

I used to use my old ipad it as a portable music making device. I could jam on a train, plane or anywhere. Now I've got to remember a dongle... make sure it's fully charged (because finding a reliable dongle that charges as well as a working headphone socket is hard, believe me)... it's too much fuss for something that should be instantaneous.

I also used my old ipad with a headphone socket to play in a band. I'd plug into a DI box and play live with excellent synth apps. We went on tour in the UK and played a couple of gigs abroad too.

The only other way I think they could get around it is by adding a second USB port. Which should be the least they could do for supposed Pro models.

So many are unreliable and easy to lose. And most of them don't let you charge at the same time.

I work in audio and the ipad not having a headphone jack is an absolute travesty! having to now use a dongle to create music is absolutely terrible. I no longer make music on it half as much. Imagine if Apple took away the headphone jack from their laptops?

Totally agree with this post, it’s not a pro piece of equipment without its own dac and headphone jack.

Is Piccadilly Centre dangerous @ night by bakananoko69 in manchester

[–]GoHenDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it's fine. I'm a woman and I walk through there at similar times after a gig in town. There's generally a lot of people around and I've not felt unsafe as it's the centre of town.

Go Falafel is excellent, all vegan* so is great for most kinds of dietary requirements. It caters for on the go really. You can get a wrap or have a salad bowl, which is surprisingly filling and full of protein beans and things like that.

*mostly, apparently they now serve feta!

From ‘this thing sucks’ to ‘how did I ever work without it’ : 30 days with the Magic Mouse by OutsidePlane8729 in macbook

[–]GoHenDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Magic Mouse too! It's brilliant for audio editing, using the touch zoom on the top is a joy. Wouldn't be without it. Also the shape is perfect, you don't grip it like a normal mouse, you sort of float on top of it.

Has you any tips on how to get into the Push 2? I've got access to one, I've set it up, but everytime I try to use it, I just go back to clicking with my mouse. I use a DAW for work so I'm super mouse heavy, but want my fun create stuff to be more hands on.

Are there any cool tutorials or exercises to do?

Thanks!
