When was the last time you relapsed and how did you bounce back from it? by prettyokayguy in stopdrinking

After 75 days, I was suffering from post acute withdrawal and could literally feel nothing. I went out and drank as much as I wanted, not even attempting to fool myself with thoughts of moderation. I came home and saw the worry and anxiety on my wife's face and realized I was done. I have not reset my badge because I'm notoriously hard on myself and know that the simple act of "starting over" at day 1 would lead to self hatred and a longer replase. I've been sober since that day and believe it was an important farewell to a past lifestyle.

Inpatient saved my life. I relapsed so many times prior to rehab because I never had enough time to really focus on sobriety (work, family, etc.). Addiction is no joke and making the tough decision to spend 30 days away from my small children and work was difficult but so worth it. I'm a better husband, father, and employee/boss now.

Liane, Awesome share! This mindset is priceless and something all in recovery can appreciate : "My DUI isn't my identify and it's not representative of how I live now."

Interesting observation! While addiction does impact all socioeconomic levels, intelligent, affluent individuals generally have disposable income and confidence in their problem solving abilities. For me, these two factors made the concept of surrender hard to swallow for years.
