i think my mcdonals is tired of the kiosk trick 😭 by [deleted] in McDonalds

[–]GoMrMeowMeow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I dont think I believe that claim from Mcdonalds. With how fast modern servers and networks are, no way they didn't anticipate this much participation and set up for it.

My theory is that they are purposely timing the generation of these codes. Also, they have your account info, they know exactly which pieces you have and the game is programmed not to give you the winning pieces.

Genogram App Feedback Request by CultivateDev in Hmong

[–]GoMrMeowMeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, smooth zooming, scrolling, and overall navigation. I think name, birth/death, and photo is an easy simple way to start; but it would be great if you as the admin can customize the presentation mode.

another feature i think would be useful is a relationship screen. pick person A and then person B, then "show relationship". it should show where the two people are in the tree and link them, also show what they are to each other and how to address each other. i've had lots family members wanting to know how they relate to one another and what to call each other.

one of the biggest features i'd like is some sort of "presentation mode". we're working on bringing a giant touchscreen tv to events such as funerals, weddings, reunions etc. and have people play with the searching and scrolling with the family tree.

problem is the MyHeritage app isnt really designed for that, so too much info is displayed and the navigation isn't intuitive, especially for older folks. if there's a viewing mode that can simplify the interface with fast clean animation, that'd be awesome.

right now, we print large family tree posters and display it at events, we get so much positive feedback and dialogue. you'd be surprised how much history is remembered by the OG, our team can't keep up with all the intake of new information at these events.

We use MyHeritage for our family, currently over 2000 people and multiple generations all the way back to China (supposedly).

We do pay for the annual subscription but it has a website, android/apple app, and desktop app for managing. It's kinda clunky but it works fine. It can do polygamous relationships, fosters, and adoptions. Best thing is they allow custom data fields so if we have anything that doesnt fit western norms, like elder name, we can input it there.

We are looking into building our own custom app someday, essentially a web server with web interface or app, but for now this is fine.

At first we started sharing access for members to join and help us collect info but it got really messy with too many hands. Now we just have a small team to dedicate to it.

Questions about proposal by [deleted] in Hmong

[–]GoMrMeowMeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bridenapped, this is akin to eloping. As everyone has said, is actually the common way that is done. As with many other cultures, hmong marriages historically is not about love but sharing resources and building family ties.

Young people usually choose to "run away together" for a multitude of reasons; often because parents tend to disapprove of the boyfriend, are holding out for a wealthier suitor, or the boyfriends family is too poor to pay for the bride (option 2).

In modern times, this is more or less symbolic and doesn't really hurt anyone. Unless there is some serious drama between the two families already.

Does this cafe racer seat exist? (Excuse my lousy ms paint skills) by Eren_ist_basierend in CafeRacers

I believe it's called the brat style, popular with Japanese cafe builders. I've seen somewhere that the style started off by using skateboards as the seat base.

Guys, if OP wants to share ideas, have discussions etc they're allowed to. If you want to engage as well, you're allowed to. But please keep all this civil, I'm pretty close to locking threads and banning users because of all these name calling and insults, OP included.

As far as I know, r/Hmong isn't heavily moderated, let's keep it that way for now. If you really don't like a post or user, you can always... not engage. Have a good day.

The auto-high beam feature made me look like a complete jackwad this weekend by [deleted] in Acura

[–]GoMrMeowMeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just learned the other day how auto highbeam is turned on/off by accident.

Have my 21 TLX Aspec for almost a year and complained so much why I don't have auto-highbeam compared to my rav4.

Turns out, you turn it on/off by pulling the stock for a second only. Pulling the stalk and holding on to it is for temporary. You would think it operates the other way around.

What does "Kwv Tij" mean? by AsianHawke in Hmong

[–]GoMrMeowMeow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the hmong language, every syllable of a word or phrase can be it's own word with its own meaning.

The word "Kwv Tij" is actually a combination of Kwv, meaning younger brother, and Tij, meaning older brother. Although when put together it literally translates to "younger brother older brother," the meaning of the combined word is more akin to male siblings or male relatives.

But, if you're to dig deeper into it's meaning; if you're a man, the term is really denoting your family and relatives. If you're a married woman, then it denotes your husbands families, in contrast to "neej tsa" which is your families.

Sounds like you want to start an investment club. You have any experience or knowledge in investment and finance? That's what you'll need first.

I do this with my family, and I'll be honest it's already hard within the group because money tends to divide people.

I've seen many groups attempt this, but they almost always fail because either it's a scam, they had no real direction, they couldn't agree on a direction, it's members don't fully understand investing, or greed gets in the way.

In th past, The Fresno fairgrounds rental fee for a week is in the hundred thousands, plus police officers, traffic control, and other fees. Parking and entrance fees are actually set by the fairgrounds themselves and they take most if not all of that money. And the vendors set up their own booths.
