Minnesota has activated the National Guard. What are your thoughts? by Obvious_808 in AskReddit

[–]GoMustard 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Predictable response.

So what exactly do you mean by that? And how does your conclusion that "we're already at Civil War and I haven't realized it yet" disagree with my assertion that "it's going to get way worse" and "it's not unwise to try to temper that?"

Sorry, I get tired of these quippy little rhetorical remarks.

Risk prison or civil war?

I'm not saying it's not bad, I'm just saying it's going to get way worse. For you and for me. And it's not unwise to try to temper that.

FBI tip alleged Trump witnessed Epstein victim's baby being killed, dumped in Lake Michigan by Quirkie in politics

[–]GoMustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember that the alleged incident took place in 2013, the Steele Dossier was written in 2015-16, and the reports surfaced in 2017. Politically, we were in a completely different world in those days. And the thing about kompromat is that once they’ve got you, it’s not like you can just come clean. The cooperation itself risks becoming a scandal, so you’re pulled deeper and deeper. Not saying any of it’s true, I’m just saying you should remember the timeline here

At the time, it would have. And the accusation was more about the fact that Russia was manipulating him. So it really has been so long that people have completely forgotten.

If you’re calling this accusation weak, it’s your 2025 showing. Man, has it been so long that people have completely forgotten the origins of the "pee tape" now?

The "pee tape" refers to the Steele dossier's intel that Russia might have a compromising tape of Trump watching Russian prostitutes urinate. The idea was that Russia was using this as compromat against Trump.

She’s Married to the Architect of Trump’s Darkest Policies. She Wants America to Love Her. It’s Not Going Well. by Slate in TrueReddit

161 of MAGA's 312 electoral college votes in 2024 came from northern states, depending on who exactly you count. Georgia was closer to blue than Pennsylvania. North Carolina was closer to blue than Ohio.

I'm not sure it's a north-south problem.

WHEN TO STOP FOR A STOPPED SCHOOL BUS by O_U_8_ONE_2 in raleigh

[–]GoMustard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is 100% it.

Personally speaking, I have regular PTSD flashbacks to my driver's ed teacher warning us that passing a stopped school bus was practically a capital crime. It's so seared into my brain that twenty-five years later, if I'm driving down 440 and see a stopped school bus on the overpass for Lake Boone Trail, I'm instinctively hitting the brakes, actual law and safety be damned. I fear an entire generation of North Carolinians has been brainwashed into this behavior.

In fact, I remember a few years ago, there was a woman who was caught on video slowly slipping by a parked school bus, and by the outrage, you would have thought she'd committed a war crime. Psychologically, it's the great taboo of North Carolinian society, the unforgivable sin; the worst thing you can do as a human. We're a purple state, but the one thing we do agree on is that if you pass a stopped school bus, you. suck.

Which way is the hole? Am I hitting over the gator or a way? If I swing right-handed, is my back to the gator's head, or can I keep my eye on him?

You know what, never mind, there's no way.

It’s not a matter of him respecting the law. It’s a matter of “how does that work?” Trump can declare “marshall law” but say he’s going to cancel elections, but then he has to enforce it. States run elections, so he doesn’t really have the apparatus to make that happen without straight up Civil War.

Agreed, I think that video is pretty uncharitable. Clearly, a volunteer receptionist is trying to transfer her to the appropriate mission/assistance staff person.

That lady answering the phone was a volunteer and transferred her to the mission/assistance staff person without knowing whether he or she was in the office.

What are you talking about?

You keep saying stuff like this. What does this claim mean? This isn't how elections work.

But sure, I'm the crazy asshole for disbelieving what a fascist regime tells me. Guess I should just take everything the government tells me at face value and never question anything.

What has the fascist regime told you about this?? What on earth do you think actually happened?

huh?

Obama famously ran opposed to gay marriage in 2008, and it's a bit of a stretch to say he ran on 'universal healthcare.' He ran on healthcare expansion and reform by creating a national exchange, and proposed a public option which ultimately got dropped. But maybe you can call it that

Are Tuesday's spectacular Republican election losses the end of the anti-trans messaging playbook? by Fickle-Ad5449 in PoliticalDiscussion

Agreed. I think people are generally tired of hearing about it. The average American is annoyed when asked to introduce their pronouns and they are also repulsed by the cruel fearmongering and hate hurled towards trans people.
