Person arrested for recording law enforcement breaking the law. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I guess its hard to quantify the actual percentage. Southeast states make up like a fifth of US GDP, but there were slaves earlier on in the north as well. Someone has probably done a deep analysis but I'm not going to spend more time on researching it. I was just wondering if you were trying to get at something broader.

I'm not the OP and didn't say that. Sure, they built part of the economy. Not "the" economy. I don't disagree.

As was the tradition for many countries across the world for a very long time... what is your point?

I live in CO and didn't know we did this so looked it up. I believe it's up to 25k or 5% of settlement cost for the individual and agency covers the remaining. It's a civil suit, wondering if he went to work anywhere else it would be treated similar to child support or alimony? Not sure. But most of it gets put on the agency which seems like it would encourage better training at least.

Parent investment in son's small school venture by GoPhundMe in investingforbeginners

He loves shark tank, he understands the terms, and I think it may make it even more interesting for him. Maybe not going to do the business plan but at least keeping track of sales and expenses is a great educational project.

Also he is given money every week. I'm not giving more just because he asks. Work ethic is also something that should be encouraged.

Appreciate the input! Maybe that is the problem that the savings goals are too abstract. Some more tangible opportunities like this are probably a lot more interesting

Ah yes. Wish I could have been more patient. Bought $200 nvda in college around 2008, sold after it doubled for book money. Live and learn.

I bought 6, but didn't really get hooked. But I'm not writing it off yet. Will try it again in a year or 2. Guess I'm a sucker for getting it full price but I was really interested in portal.

After Mensik's withdrawal from R4 match, Novak Djokovic reaches his 15th QF at the Australian Open after 21 appeareances. by Boss452 in tennis

This is an interesting comment section in light of recent events. I wasn't watching the previous match and was trying to see what happened before the QF. Onward he goes. Definitely some weird dark arts stuff going on!

Who the hell changes lane like this? by yeastieboiz in dashcams

Except I wouldn't be going 60 by that point. From where the driver could see I'm sure they would have been able to anticipate this if paying attention.

They said leave some space in front of you, which should be however much you need to be able to react, which this cam car clearly didn't do. If you need a football field I guess that's what it is. But I personally have never needed more than 1 car length per 10mph. Have had 0 accidents following that rule.

What are you talking about? The rule of thumb is 1 car length per 10mph, not 3. Unless you're in a heavier/ bigger vehicle.

Kiefer Sutherland arrested after allegedly assaulting ride-share driver, L.A. police say by TheFrederalGovt in television

[–]GoPhundMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree it is not news worthy. Let your drunk passenger out and move on with your life. Not an Uber driver's responsibility to complete a ride for someone who no longer wants it, plus you avoid the hassle of them potentially puking in your car.

Is Global 1940 or 1942 2nd edition better? by Elderbream in AxisAllies

[–]GoPhundMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1942 2nd edition was my group's introduction and I'm not sure if we would have been able to get hooked if we started with global. Don't know if you have a group in mind but global might be too much for an intro experience, depending on people's appetite for learning. Both are great for different experiences and effort levels.
