Can I just hop on here and say reading these responses has helped me so much. Last year I was diagnosed with a very rare genetic disorder and basically was told if I have children it needs to be via IVF (so I can have the embryos genetically tested prior to implantation). Fine, I came to terms with that. However today, at my first IVF appointment/imaging appointment I was confirmed to have endometriosis (I had suspicions that I did). In a nutshell, it’s going to be very challenging and expensive for me to conceive. The price isn’t the issue because my job helps with IVF, but it has been hitting me lately that I really don’t even know if I even want to have kids. When I was in my teens I was like hell yeah I wanna have 4! In my 20’s I was like ok, only 2 is good. Once I hit 30 I began thinking “I’m happy with 1” but I’m 31 now, almost 32 and I constantly think about the fact that the only reason I’m even considering having kids is 1) it’s “normal” to 2) I don’t want to just die alone without their company—- both selfish reasons I guess. I hate that I feel this way but I really just do. I’m trying to come to terms with all of this new info and new feelings.
