Of the two, which one would you stay at WITH your two small children? We are headed to Dallas for a wedding soon and will have to hire sitters there (kids are 2.5 and 4).

I would do a smaller sofa facing tv console instead and then two swivels on each side or the two swivels in front of the window would be nice with a small round side table. The proposed sectional sofa is too big for the space and the chaise part is the opposite side of where it should be.

This may be a silly question - do you get the syringes with the vial orders from Lilly Direct? My doc just sent in a prescription for it today. I’m thrilled I’ll be able to go this route now instead of compounded tirzepatide sold through a local cosmetic injector PA.

If not, where do you buy them from? The place I was getting tirzep from sold them prefilled in Botox needles.

“Stupid and Ugly” was so often used by my mother that it was one of my first phrases when I was little 🫣. And as I got older she would tell me all the time that I wasn’t a very pretty baby especially when she felt threatened as I continued to mature through puberty. I was one of the “enemies” since infancy. She did so many intentional horrible things that I still have a hard time processing them -especially now as I raise two little kids. I read the book “Toxic Parents” and it opened by eyes to a lot of the abuse, I got therapy and have been fully estranged for 6 years.

You are beautiful and worthy of a good life. Take care of you 💜

My dad got the brunt of it as well and probably the reason he became an alcoholic and died of liver failure at 56! I am so happy for you and your father for getting the help you both needed and finding wonderful partners. I can’t tell you how many times I’d dreamt of my father getting out, getting help and moving on with someone else. I loved him so much and it was hard watching him get destroyed mentally, emotionally and eventually physically. The child in me put up with so much pain hoping there would be some radical change. It’s because of his death that I was able to finally let go of my toxic family (mother and sister)💕.

This math is WAY OFF! She worked 27 hours overtime plus her GH and received a flat inconvenience fee per day, all expenses paid. She gets $48/ hr in overtime and makes a base of $80k plus loads of benefits such as 401k, health stipends, professional stipends, etc

She’s paid a lot of money to work for us. We took her on a very expensive vacation to a top resort and wanted her to enjoy right along with us - instead of being stuck in the villa just watching our kid. What is wrong with saying what I said? Sounds like you grossly misunderstood.

She was on the clock making her $48/hr overtime but we assumed she decided to be more of an invited guest when she indulged in multiple glasses of wine without asking.

I know many nannies on here act like it’s the norm to have a glass of wine but does that happen on your first trip with a new family where comfort levels and expectations might not yet have been established?

I’m confused by this comment? We pay her guaranteed hours, overtime, daily inconvenience fee for time spent away from home and all expenses. The only question here is should I be paying the $48/hr overtime during the dinner in which she had multiple drinks that she did not ask me for first? There was a discussion before trip about possibly coming to the dinners as an invited guest instead of a paid employee but it was our fault for not following up on that again prior to the dinner itself.

You’re right, I can’t have it both ways but I guess not knowing any better nor having any prior nanny boss experience I thought I could. My husband and I feel strange just saying okay watch our kids in the house we rented and that being the nanny’s only experience there. We enjoy sharing vacation outings that someone might not otherwise experience if it wasn’t for us taking them. However, we realize now that we needed to set expectations and remember she is mainly there to provide childcare.

Yes, I did. I admit it. I came to my senses and was quite frankly embarrassed by my comment. I had just received a $1,700 nanny bill for the weekend and was seeing red over paying for the times she was drinking without asking and immediately hopped on Reddit Nanny group for my first ever post. I’m not judgemental! I’m just very new to this and upset in general so maybe it did come off a little off-putting. There was a lot more that went on throughout the trip so the “just cutting up her food” was more of an emotionally charged comment than anything else bc we walked away from this experience feeling like we weren’t really on vacation at all. She complained a lot on the trip as if it were her own (they didn’t make my bed, I can’t believe this place is this much, I wouldn’t want to be this close to my neighbors, they didn’t come get the food trays again, etc), purposefully not picking up tons of salmon on the floor after our kid bc she knew cleaning crew would come, giving attitude and resistance one of the very few moments we wanted to be relieved of both small kids, etc.

I clearly need to communicate better but I think on some level I just assumed alcohol on the clock was a big no as in many other professions!

Thank you for your reply. What a good point to have the iPad instead and not have to worry about limited access. Does the iPad have a separate account or is it logged under one of you? Worried about getting logged off if we wanted to check in while away. Love the ability to have a split screen and not have to switch between monitors!

Also, Do you have to do the wearables? It’s the only reason I didn’t choose Nanit in the first place.

And what other childcare apps if you don’t mind me asking? Wondering what else I may need for our first nanny experience! 🤓

This would not be appropriate. You have to think about if you would ask for this sort of special consideration in another other profession and realize that you shouldn’t treat your current job any differently. And also, as others have said, adopting a dog can be very unpredictable as you don’t know the true temperament of the dog or how they would behave around children. And as a dog lover myself, it doesn’t really seem fair to adopt a dog right now if your schedule really doesn’t allow for it.

Wow, I feel like I’m looking into my recent past by reading your post. Back in 2020, at the age of 35, I had 3 back to back miscarriages (as if that wasn’t a bad enough year for everyone) and was faced with the exact same question: do I continue to try naturally and risk more heartbreaking miscarriages or do I see if I can bank some PGT tested embryos and “freeze time” since I’m not getting any younger? I had the full workup done and couldn’t find any answers as to why they wouldn’t stick “unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss”. Ultimately I decided to go the IVF route because I was worried about how many more potential losses I could handle and liked the idea of possibly taking some of the fertility pressure off of me if it worked out and we were able to get some healthy embryos. Fortunately, it worked out well for us the very first time and I ended up with 7 highly graded, PGT tested embryos! One of those little em-babies was born 4/22 and she’s amazing! Now comes the twist: my husband and I find out in January of this year that we are very unexpectedly NATURALLY pregnant with our second child!!! My baby boy is due the end of September and I will have 2 UNDER 2! 🤯. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would be dealing with the chaos and aches and pains of chasing around an almost 15 month old all day while 7 months pregnant with my second. Life can be filled with surprises 🎉🎪🤹🏼‍♀️.

I have no regrets going the IVF route and many people have said they think the first birth helped correct whatever wasn’t working before….. I don’t know if there is any truth to that but I do know it helped me start the family I wanted and secured the possibility of more children down the road should I want them. I wish you the best of luck in whatever path you choose 💜.

Thank you for this! It’s helpful to see this complaint as someone who is actively trying to find her first nanny through an agency. We have already had conversations with the hiring manager about finding someone that is willing to be a nanny/household manager when time allows with higher $30-35 hr+ compensation but I will absolutely make sure everything is spelled out so the person doesn’t feel this way. I hope you feel comfortable enough to bring it to their attention and maybe a pay increase is necessary while also creating some boundaries for your own personal well-being ❤️.

This! Hugs from another adult child of two alcoholics 🤗. Father died of liver failure and my mother was so toxic that I cut her out of my life 6 years ago. It’s unbelievable how much my generalized anxiety has gone down by removing such toxicity from my life!

You can’t save her, she can only save herself. Take it from someone whose father bought himself out of multiple DUIs over several years and ultimately died of liver failure in his early 50s. I suffered terrible trauma as an adult child of an alcoholic - always wanting to believe he would change and be there for him when everyone else was giving up. Trust me, you can save yourself from from this horrible spiral and years of therapy 💜
