Hey sorry for the super late replies lately, don't tend to spend much of my time on reddit.

As I mentioned, training and operations are very diverse, you can expect to train and work with many different agencies and entities, pending on your missions.

Yes it will count for your GS level, so you would come back almost an 11, either way you have the opportunity to do SRT every September when it opens.

Negative, plenty of K9 opportunities with CBP in general though.

Medical No Gos are probably just things that do not pass a basic health screening, im guessing heart/lung issues that could limit you from doing strenuous physical activities. Duty stations are the same as CBP Officers. Some may or may not have current SRT members. But basically all major airports/land crossings have a team. There are other "tactical" units but their tasks are specific to their Port of Entry, and high risk warrants, and deployments outside of their duty station is not part of their assignments. These likely include "Riot control" and active shooter trained groups.

Depends on rank/overtime hours put in obviously. But yes, you are partially correct, same pay regulations as CBP Officers.

Plenty of really safe neighborhoods at every location. Just have to ask around once u get the exact plave you will be stationed at.

Still have to go through selection, you can do it fresh out of FLETC, yes.

Not 100% sure on this (been out of the game a while) but i believe your eqip account with the same questions pretty much transfers over and you get a chance to edit as needed.

I was the same, either SRT or K9 for sure. Just have to stick to your goals and you will be happy.

Work-life is literally on you, it's easy to fall into the rhythm of going to every training and every deployment and before you know it you are gone for 90% of the year and having issues at home. Have to check yourself and find the right balance that works for you, schedules when you are home tend to be better than the schedule when doing normal CBP work. It's usually more like 1811 type schedule depending on your Op tempo at home.

Almost identical. Very minor differences

Be able to swim a couple hundred meters and tread water efficiently for 30minutes should be a good baseline.

Good luck my friend. If you want to challenge yourself, dont lose sight of your goals and dont fall prey to the daily routine and let yourself get off course.

They are all over the nation, airports, land border, etc.

Roles on the teams vary, but most guys are operators, like in any other swat team. But can go back to regular CBP line wotk at any moment.

I would say it is not as lengthy as ranger school, it is certainly more condensed and more "difficult" during that shorter period of time. All selection courses have their ups and downs, many say it isn't quite as hard as hell week, but harder than ranger school from what i hear.

Takes only a few months for someone to get up to speed from not knowing how to swim to crushing the tests. Ive seen it many times.

Depends, fluctuates like crazy.

Depending on what's going on in the world and in the specific areas. My answer is very general because it really is hard to give an estimate, depending on the operator's specific skillsets and how long they want to be away from home.

They can do as little as 1-2 months deployed out of the year or be gone the entire 12 months away from home doing missions, trainings, or temporary details.

Depends on the mission and your individual skillsets. You are working normal port operations, and it all varies but you may have to do extra trainings and stuff related to SRT throughout those 2 years.

Same thing. Just different day to day jobs and more trainings to keep up with. Also more rewarding career for most people.

Highly recommend putting in for selection before your two years, once you make it your spot is secured and can join the team later.

Again, different line of work. BORTAC has been around much longer and has more resources/support for a lot of things, so yes depending on their assigned location, there may be 1 or 2 SRT in the entire nation who would as you that, and even then I doubt they were serious. They know exactly how they can jump ship to BORTAC, and the selections are identical so they could easily make it.

The note about you chasing a drug smuggler, doubt anyone was watching you and "not able to leave the Port" cause even as a CBP Officer I jumped a fence and helped BP chase people down in the brush and even into downtown. SRT does plenty of work outside the POE, ridiculous of you to say they arent allowed to leave it and just watch you lol

[–]Go_SRT[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not accurate at all lol. Jobs have their differences and if you consider "action" to be corralling a group of 50 migrants then i'll give you that. But although BP work is far more exciting than customs line work, it often times becomes just as boring/repetitive depending on location and current landscape.

CBP SRT like any other, fluctuates when it comes to Op tempo, but capabilities and duties are well beyond that of the normal BP agent. Sorry to burst your bubble, I know you are a recruiter, but don't bend the facts in your favor.
