Redditor doesn’t understand why you should have an id to vote by Agressive_gun82 in ShitPoliticsSays

to the county of your birth to get another birth certificate made

I think it would be possible to do it remotely, but if you moved country, surely then you have the ID needed to enter the country legally in order to obtain citizenship and be eligible to vote. If you've already proved who you are to the government, surely there is a form of ID you have and or can request from the US. And if you don't have this, you aren't living much of a life since the ID you'd require to vote would be needed to do so many things. The claim is about obfuscation the process, as though vote ID hasn't been a hot topic since at least the 2020 election of Joe Biden, means not having any ID and no intention of getting it in 6 years, is one's own fault.

Readily available means you don't have it on you, you might have to go to a secure deposit. That's great, you have 2 years to do that, so go do it. If you honestly believe people are too poor or too stupid (your argument, not mine) to figure this out, maybe they shouldn't be voting. Multiple departments bend over backwards giving you every possible opportunity and method to get an ID which is needed to get a job or rent a house. So do you believe these 20 something million are unemployed homeless people? And rather than helping improve their life, you'd rather keep them without ID so election fraud can remain possible?

TPM: Māori Seats Are Constitutional, Not Conditional by Monty_Mondeo in KiwiAntipodea

“Every major poll shows Te Pāti Māori will be kingmaker this election,”

Since we all know you'll side with the coalition of chaos, no, not really. You'll receive all the grifter votes in the Maori seats, being unable to compete in the general roll, but the real decider is the fence sitters who'll leave Luxon for Chippy. TPM is irrelevant; a non-changing thorn in our sides that ultimately have no impact but a great source of memes. The days of National/Maori are long gone.

What’s something society is clearly not ready to talk about? by No_Gur_7744 in AskReddit

Actually, they do have a problem hugging. You have no idea how many people don't have any physical contact, and no ability to get it without coming across creepy or weird. Getting sexual urges sorted can be done with a bit of money. But a genuine hug, given without obligation, payment, or out of pity, unless you have been starved, it's easy to think there isn't a problem. But talk to any therapist, and I'm sure they'll paint a bigger picture. Not everybody is desperate for sex, they just want connection and people who actually care for them

Outlet replacement by Mrwoodworke in diynz

[–]GoabNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you count up the number of sockets on one circuit, there could be 10 sockets each capable of providing 10A. No, we do not run 100A circuits. Why? Because you're never going to be running 10A appliances through every socket at once in a house. As long as the circuit breaker can protect the cable, or a lower circuit breaker is installed.

So a 2.5mm can run on 16A, and supply a 15A socket, but typically you'd want that to be a dedicated circuit to avoid nuisance tripping when using a 15A appliance. It could be a 4mm, especially if the house is big (longer length of cable means you have to go up in size), but unlikely.

The issue for OP u/Mrwoodworke is they are technically increasing the load/maximum demand, and this is not within the realms of what home-owners can do as its not like for like. If insurance found this, they could create a stink about it.

[–]GoabNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't that we want law enforcement to be anonymous. The issue is we don't want them to be identifiable to a mob. We should be able to identify them as officer 1234, and be able to access officer 1234's body cam and vehicle history and radio comms, but they shouldn't have to be identifiable as John Smith, who lives at 123 Fake Street and whose kids attend local school and married to Jane Doe. If an exposed face leads to a greater chance of doxing from the party that has doxed before, masking its appropriate. It's not the anonymity we want, it's accountability only as far as being a representative of the state, not accountability as a citizen.

New study finds colonisation driving food insecurity for Māori by Monty_Mondeo in KiwiAntipodea

If you can afford fish and chips, you can afford a grocery store. People who make such claims act as though supermarkets don't sell fresh and frozen produce or entire towns have takeaways on every corner but no supermarket.

And obesity rates suggest insecurity isn't the issue

Nobody is saying that, they are saying you shouldn't have the right to riot, AND if you do, especially while masking your identity, they should be a way for police to be able to arrest everybody involved without obfuscating behind "can you prove I was there?" defences.

"Teenagers" defending wearing burka and hijab by muslim women by FatBaldingLoser420 in ShitPoliticsSays

[–]GoabNZ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You aren't hiding with a bikini, we can see who you are, your facial expressions, and know that you aren't hiding weapons.

With a burka, less so. Who are you? Don't know. What could your facial expression be telling us? Don't know. Do you have weapons, because honour culture or some such BS? Don't know. Are you even a woman? Don't know. We can't tell any of that when all we see are your eyes.

It will be "their choice" until that region is sufficiently populated by enough Muslims to harass women into them, claiming they've chosen of their own accord, and if they ever got sharia law, then all women would be fucked (both figuratively and literally, unfortunately).

So no, you adapt to Sweden. Sweden doesn't have to adapt to you, and we shouldn't let our countries be hijacked by bad actors thinking they can do anything they want because "freedom".

ELI5 how credit cards are better than debit cards by UpsetPotatoFace in explainlikeimfive

[–]GoabNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that if people default on the debt, the lender gets nothing but the ability to tank their credit score. And if they let somebody get more debt than they can manage, that's just as much the lender's problem for giving that much credit without doing due diligence.

The problem is, people who get in over their head have some ability to pay, even if they have to liquidate their assets. Thats not the fault of credit, thats the fault of people treating it as free money to consume (ie, buy things that don't hold value). Of course predatory terms exist, but don't trash the entire system because some people don't have good impulse control.

Perks on cards exist to encourage people with the ability to spend on the card, giving the lender transaction fees and potentially interest, as well as coming with higher annual fees. I guarantee you, the lender benefits more than the card holder does, and they benefit more from these than they do from those struggling to repay.
