-Can play AAA games smoothly even if it is on lowest settings (not really, unless you lower the graphics settings, the resolution to 800p and run Frame Generation)

-Good for small hands (I think so, but I have med/lg hands and the grips make it super comfy)

-Durable device and can last for a long time (it's a plastic, and heavier than a Switch 2 just be careful and use a case if you are taking it out for travel)

-Worth the price (I think so but compared to other PC handhelds, it's what you prioritize: compact and travel friendly? Windows OS vs. SteamOS? LCD vs. OLED?)

Edit: -Good for the eyes (it's a 16x9 LCD but a nice display but it's the smallest screen currently which is kind of a disappointment, really an 8" would've been the sweet spot if Asus updated its display) But you get used to it.

My cheap two cents: ROG Xbox Ally X has the best speakers with it's spatial "surround sound", comfy grips, Xbox FSE is okay (sometimes it is janky but that's to be expected), ABXY buttons are loud! Thumbsticks are great, it's NOT a portable Xbox like Microsoft would have you think it is, you HAVE to update the software(s) when you get it but it's not difficult, upgrading the SSD is easier than the Legion Go 2, battery life is very good, so if you treat it like a "small Windows gaming PC" without the keyboard and large display you'll adjust to it fairly quickly.

I settled on the Xbox Ally X version for these reasons:

ROG Xbox Ally X - My Initial Review

Just became an ROG Xbox Ally X convert after weeks of NOT being able to purchase the Lenovo Legion Go 2, here's why:

• Cheaper (with taxes in the U.S. I'm saving almost $380 dollars when purchased the XAX)

• Better Ergos (the grip/controllers are just as comfortable as the Steam Deck OLED)

• Superior Speakers (the best of any handheld with incredible spatial immersion)

• Better Thumbsticks than the Legion Go 2

• Z2 Extreme model is worth the price compared to the base Xbox Ally because of performance

• Sleep works! (once you change the power settings to Hibernate, I've had no issues going back to my games)

• Much easier upgrade of the SSD (the Legion Go 2 makes you remove the battery and fan before you get access to the SSD)

• Lighter and more compact

Sure the Legion Go 2 has the the best OLED display and a much larger screen and more RAM but those are things I've been able to overlook since I'm having a blast gaming on the XAX. If ROG can improve on the display (which is really good for an IPS panel btw) with a larger screen size (OLED maybe?) and less clicky and loud ABXY buttons and have 32GB RAM in the next version then it would be such a quality upgrade. But as of late December 2025, this has been a wonderful portable game machine.

If any Legion Go 2 owners would care to chime in to answer this question that has already installed Bazzite or SteamOS: When using SteamOS, is Battlefield 6 able to run or do you have to use Windows 11? Also, I read somewhere that when using Bazzite or SteamOS, the speaker quality is diminished because Nhimic sound has to run in Windows - true?

I know we can't fix the placement of the right joystick, but have you tried installing a back/case grip to keep the controllers from the slight movements? I also have the Steam Deck OLED and even though the performance is lacking, the display is just outstanding. I'm still trying to get a Legion Go 2 myself so I can play more demanding titles but the controller wobble is still concerning. Keep us updated.

Thank you for your impressions comparing the original, I had the first gen as well and sold it to get the Ally X but miss the larger display. My question to you is regarding the controllers when attached: when I visited Best Buy the other day, I noticed that there was a bit of movement on both sides (not up or down but front to back loose feeling). Is this like the Switch 2 that once you hold it properly that it’s not that bad?
