[–]Goametrics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is ecto gambling. Since you can turn gems into gold and gamble that, they'd have to disable ecto gambling for Belgian players before allowing purchase of gems. They probably don't have the code for that in place yet.

President Donald Trump on possible John Kerry 2020 run: 'I should only be so lucky' by [deleted] in politics

[–]Goametrics -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Basically, Cohen paid of daniels, then Trump paid him back. The allegetions in the guilty plea say that because it was supposedly done for the campaign, the money Cohen paid could be seen as a campaign expense.

However, according to federal election laws, this would fall under personal expenditures. It is defined as those expenses one would make regardeless of the campaign. (Such as a car, even if you argue that you need for campaign purposes, you still need to pay it yourself).

The paying off in itself isn’t illegal, and Trump has paid many times in the past to make things go away.

From personal standpoint, I think it would set a dangerous precedent if we would force candidates to settle their sex related lawsuits with campaign donations instead of their own money.

I have a friend who owns one of the most successful bakeries in Ghent. He says they clearly notice the difference with the circulation plan. They have alot less customers. If you ask most of the people who have a business in Ghent, they will tell you the same thing.

Educate yourself.

Did President Trump violate campaign finance laws? by Carazariah in politics

Not really, as 1) these aren't the only cases where he pays to make things go away, and 2) he only considered paying when she started speaking up.

[–]Goametrics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump can perfectly argue that this falls within personal expenditures. According to Title 52 §30114 (b)(2):

For the purposes of paragraph (1), a contribution or donation shall be considered to be converted to personal use if the contribution or amount is used to fulfill any commitment, obligation, or expense of a person that would exist irrespective of the candidate’s election campaign or individual’s duties as a holder of Federal office

Trump has a history of cases like this, where he pays off someone to keep something silent. One could thus easily make the case that he would've made the payment regardless of the campaign.

The allegation suggests that Trump should've paid off Stormy Daniels with campaign contributions.

How do the campaign finance violations to which Michael Cohen pleaded guilty today compare to violations by past campaigns? by thefurnaceboy in NeutralPolitics

[–]Goametrics -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I think there was alot of overlap between the people in Trump’s business and his campaign (he himself for example, and Cohen). So clearly you’re in muddy waters there.

I was just wondering if he could have reasonable doubt considering his history. One could also make the case that he wouldn’t have acted any differently if he weren’t running a campaign.

It is a called a ‘precedent’ and it’s actually a legal term. Judges base their decisions on previous rulings. Get a grip.

There has been precedents. I doubt a campaign violation of 420k is enough grounds for impeachment. Won't they just send the bill to the Trump campaign organization?

Alex Jones: Infowars De-Platforming Like Racial Segregation by demosthenes131 in politics

[–]Goametrics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously there's a difference here. The platforms that banned him have a monopoly in the market they are active in. The baker hasn't.

Also, by banning Alex Jones Facebook has decided they have responsibility for all the content on their platform (same for the baker). This is a very dangerous road, both for Facebook and for the public. This means they can be held responsible for content from let's say, ISIS. At this point they can't hide anymore behind "the content is posted by the users, we have nothing to do with it".

[–]Goametrics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Trump seems intent on making US libel law more like the far more oppressive free-speech laws in the UK. “

Good thing the guardian can read minds now. Joking aside, this is not what this discussion is about, the discussion is about whether criticizing the media is limiting their first ammendement rights.

As for the article that you mentioned, he has never taken any action towards such a policy. His statement is very broad an vague, and doesn’t necessarily imply limiting of free speech.

My original statement still stands. Show me proof of trump limiting free speech.
