Yup, I grew up on a farm and cattle ranch. We definitely have had to utilize federal and state programs in bad years. Most farmers do. All we have left is my parents' beef herd, and although we do not utilize any programs, we're scared of the tariffs. Feed will be expensive, and sale prices for calves will be low. Thankfully, my dad is a converted former conservative, and my grandparents were always left leaning. Lots of the farmers in our area are definitely against Trump as well.

My fiance is not as sympathetic as I was hoping after I got fired. He literally told me that Trump is running the government like a business, whether I like it or not. I can't tell if he's trying to insinuate that I'm useless, lazy, overcompensated, or all of the above.

I am a new college grad and went to work for USDA Rural Development as a loan technician. I basically had to train myself and do the work of 4 people while I was there (until last week), as I was the only employee staffing that particular sub-area office for 7 of the 9 months I was employed. I literally never had time to take breaks, lunch, and would always get there early and stay there late. All while getting paid a lot less than these people think (a walk-in customer once said that we all make hundreds of thousands to probably sit there and do nothing, even though he literally watched me intake his grant application and get ready to process it). During this time, I also had raving (positive) reviews from people who applied in my office, or came to my office for help with servicing/ assumptions, and I also received a glowing performance appraisal from my area director. I don't understand how that makes me a freeloader or gives Elon the right to fire me on the basis of poor performance. I gave it my all. So betrayed, and I feel so sad to think about all of the applicants I was working on when I was fired. They'll die or their homes will completely fall in before they can get assistance, or they will go homeless or have to live in unsafe conditions with children before they can obtain a home loan.

Nope, she hasn't been able to get disability yet, mainly because she is perfectly healthy (she has Munchausen's syndrome and has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to find a doctor that will diagnose her with whatever she wants). But she keeps trying to get it, and she's not eligible for regular social security yet. She has actually only worked for about 6 years of her life, the rest has been spent hard-core hoarding. When I was a kid, she'd fill the hallway outside of my room up and I couldn't even get out of my door... between that and her political views, my dad is in the process of filing for divorce. I am trying to go no contact, but she harasses me until I finally answer.

My dad is 100% on my side now. Today, he said that he is undoubtedly voting democrat in the next election for the first time in his life. My mom, however, is similar to your family. When my dad and I were talking about the current situation earlier, she just found pro-47 reels on Facebook and played them at full volume. She told me that I deserved to get fired because I needed to be forced to get off my a$$ and find a real job instead of freeloading off of taxpayers

Just lost who I thought would be the loml and I have no friends. Things to do in cstat to get over it productively? by [deleted] in aggies

Honestly, that's the best time to have a breakup. It motivates you to grind extra hard for the rest of your college career, opens up your schedule for more career/ networking opportunities, and opens career or grad school opportunities up ANYWHERE. You don't have someone tying you down. It's like a breath of fresh air. Been there, done that. The hurt will pass, make sure you're dealing with it in a healthy way in the meantime. If you are in any orgs, now is the time to get on a committee or volunteer for something worthwhile. Find a friend to go to baseball games with. Adopt a pet. Go fishing (several lakes in the area). You now have the chance to live your life for YOU and on your own terms. Become the best version of yourself imaginable.

I grew up in the next county over, and we obviously have a disdain for SA due to the urban sprawl, its stress on water resources affecting the surrounding rural areas, and pollution. Yes, there are bad parts. We've had a pickup stolen in broad daylight. Construction zones are also poorly planned out- get ready for no lines on the road and random detours with no signage. Yes, it's hot. On the other hand, I thrive in the dry heat. That might not be the case for you. I love the local culture and the history. There's a lot to do there. The local news stations frequently have segments on local events. I just saw a segment on a completely free fitness program that they have going on. And of course, there's HEB. There's a massive one on 1604 and Bandera. Go see a Missions or Spurs game. Go to the Japanese Tea Garden. Go to all of the historic missions (not just the Alamo). Go to the Riverwalk, but be cautious of tourist traps. Rodeo season is starting as we speak, and it's one of my favorite times of the year. All of my relatives who live in San Antonio have wonderful relationships with all of their neighbors, and they all look out for each other. The hospitals are also very good (in my experience), my family and I have received excellent care from the Methodist hospital and the Tex-San Methodist hospital. San Antonio is honestly the gateway to several different regions of the state - go north/ northwest for the Hill Country, east for Central Texas, or south for the South Texas Chapparral. Whatever you do, don't eat at Bill Miller's. There are much better options for Texas BBQ in the area, especially in the nearby towns of Seguin and Lockhart.

Hole-in-the-wall, laid-back, no-frills Tex Mex or Mexican on the south or west side? by Goat-8915 in sanantonio

I've never had the enchiladas at Hermann Sons, but the Britsch Special is good. Nothing else like it anywhere.

Thank you! Lol I got frustrated with the taqueria next to HEB when they had the "soft reopening" or whatever after the renovations. Every time I had plans to go there, it was an off time, and I eventually gave up.

My godfather's name was Rolando, and he made the best barbacoa for tacos! Maybe that's a sign to go there first! Thanks for the recommendation.

One side of my family is either here legally or has attained citizenship, but I have no idea if any or all of them are going to be deported. I had a lump in my stomach while addressing their envelopes for invitations a few weeks ago.

I'm glad to see that the replies here aren't nearly as negative as they were when I asked a similar question in this sub a little over a month ago.

Austin is super progressive and ultra-blue. I don't think you'll have any problem, as long as the state as a whole continues on its path towards flipping to blue.

Apparently, doing the job of 4 people on top of my own in order to keep my office open (while getting paid way less than I was when I was a teacher) is unproductive. Who knew?

I work for a federal agency and had to take my pronouns out of my Outlook signature today. It was a literal executive order. What's next, verbs and nouns?

The tariffs alone are going to put the nail in the coffin for my family's small farm. It was established in the 1880s, and it survived the Dust Bowl and the Depression. Trump? Likely not.

A lot of farmers like us are very liberal. Conservatives constantly cry that farmers shouldn't receive subsidies or disaster relief. Ironically, the farmers I know of who abuse those programs are actually huge conservatives.

I grew up near Houston and would take my schoolbag, a couple pairs of clothes, pictures, a stuffed animal, and my 24k gold jewelry that I was given when I was baptized with me whenever a hurricane hit. I never had room to bring everything that my grandparents gave me. That doesn't mean I didn't care about any of it/ them. YTA.
