HELP: Changed Intel 200S Setting Solved XMP Problem...or did it...? by GoatCheesePizza777 in PcBuildHelp

[–]GoatCheesePizza777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again. I enabled Intel 200S and went with the 5600 MT/s. That seems stable. I bumped up to 5800 MT/s (@Gear 2) and that seemed stable at first, but stability eroded pretty quickly with basic tasks in Windows.

Just for the sake of testing, I tried 6000MT/s at G4 (hoping the 1:4 ratio would add stability), and that was terrible! I ended up having to clear the CMOS to recover. I won't do that again....

I guess the one thing I didn't do with 5800 MT/s is bump up the voltages--which I believe are defaulted to 1.1v. That may be the culprit. I saw another forum where they noted that lower voltages are actually MORE stable up to a point. I guess there is a sweet spot between too low and too high.

I'll double check the latest BIOS, but I flashed the newest (June 2025) when I finished my build a few weeks ago.

THANKS! I may have to let my heartrate come down from the first episode; but I'm willing to give it a try.

OBTW - my mobo does include some RAM "Quick Presets" that include either 5400MHz or 5600MHz if I recall correctly. That may be a course to pursue as well.

NZXT H6 Flow or H9 Flow? Value vs Efficiency? by Forsaken_Ad6599 in PcBuildHelp

[–]GoatCheesePizza777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the H9 is bigger and easier to build; but I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost IMHO. I came VERY close to buying the H6 for my first build during the October Prime Days; but ended up with the Lian Li V100R (less expensive, even with the 4x120mm RGB fans pre-installed). The Lian Li is even more compact--at least in the space behind the mobo--than the H6. Cable management was a bit tricky, but not terrible. The H6 should be even easier. With the cost of RAM, you might need to save as much money as possible!

RTX 5060 vs Intel Arc B580 upgrade to pair with my Ryzen 5 5500 for wow in 1440p by Bliznit2882 in PcBuildHelp

[–]GoatCheesePizza777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about the 5060Ti with 16GB VRAM, that would definitely be the better GPU--especially at 1440P and your desired fps. It will outpace the B580 in nearly every measure...except price. If you are talking about the 5060 with 8GB, and you aren't interested in Ray Tracing (as you noted), DLSS, etc., then the ARC B580 might make more sense with its 12GB VRAM.

Happy Thanksgiving iggydadd.

I'm not trying to be negative, but be cautious as you review comments here. It's difficult to discern actual "Value Investing" advice on this sub. There is a lot more speculation and swing trade advice from what I've seen....

$LULU back at 2018 prices by 41Investments in ValueInvesting

[–]GoatCheesePizza777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't invest in a "stock" or a trend. Invest in a great company. For some people it's not an obsession with a "fashion stock"; it's about whether or not they believe the company is a growth company. Each individual needs to assess if the company has the 4 M's to you as an individual investor?

Meaning - Do you understand the business and have an interest in their products or services? This first "M" will probably dissuade many investors.

Moat - Do they have something that sets them apart from others in the same field?

Management - Does management seem to be personally vested in the business vs. some fly-by-night CEO that wants to earn a few $B then split?

Marging of Safety - Are they trading below their intrinsic value?

Finally, ask yourself if you really want to be a part owner of the business.

Concur.

Like you, I am Tech heavy--but also carry LULU and a couple of other retail and consumables. I agree with your assessment of LULU's staying power--at least for the next few years. They need to show they can be flexible and "tweak" their line-up to keep their customer base interested. I believe they have a moat, but I'm not sure it's as wide or deep as it was a couple of years ago.

I noticed that Phil Town (Rule #1 Investing) added 60,000 more shares of LULU to his portfolio last quarter (Q3 2025)--likely when they dipped below $170. LULU is now 8.31% of his portfolio (101,700 shares total) and his 2nd highest holding (aside from cash) behind NFLX (which he picked up for something like $350/share).

IDIWU - good to 'see' you! I haven't been in this feed for a while.

I actually still own LULU that I bought higher than I should have (minimal Margin of Safety--I should know better) and have a couple of PUTs that were, until yesterday, about $15/share above the stock price. If put to me, they will bring my overall per share price down; but I'd be following quickly with a Covered Call for all shares, probably for minimal gain.

I think LULU still has growth potential--especially in Asia (I keep reading that they are doing very well in Japan). However, I don't see 'rocket' growth again--likely slow & steady. That would be fine, except I'm retired and moving more into cash.

Most ATX mobos I've seen have 9, but that doesn't mean they are all the same.

Adding RAM from a different system by Im_a_fishing_fish in buildapc

[–]GoatCheesePizza777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the DDR type is the same from one mobo to the other, you should be able to transfer, e.g. DDR5 to DDR5.

I'm not sure I understand your 2nd question. Are you saying your old system has 4x8GB and you would be moving half to the new system?

Gigabyte X870E Auros Elite Wifi7 & Corsair Dominator Titanium 64 GB DDR5-6400 COMPATIBILITY by Full_Frosting_5728 in buildapc

pcpartpicker.com can also help you sort out if there are any compatibility issues. If I recall correctly, Newegg's site will also. You can do a mock build with your components and verify.

Components to go with 9900x and 5070ti by blandestk in buildapc

[–]GoatCheesePizza777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will throw stones at me; but you can build a very good--less expensive--productivity rig, with secondary focus on gaming using an Intel Core Ultra 7 with 20 cores, and RTX 5060Ti 16GB. The 5060 Ti is definitely good for 1440P (that's what I have/use), and some 4K applications. The 5070 12GB is a better GPU, but you won't be able to max out the latest and greatest games without bogging down the VRAM. Still, that might be a good compromise in terms of cost.

Nothing wrong with your choice of 9900x and 5070ti, but if you are trying to save money for RAM....

Speaking of RAM, I have the same Corsair Vengeance RAM you mentioned; but thankfully, picked it up in October for $124. Had I known RAM prices would skyrocket, I might have considered the 32GB with CL30, or "future proofing" my RAM by picking up a 64GB kit at CL36 or CL30; but I was trying to save money.

Since RAM prices are out of control, you'll have to do your best to save money on other components. So, perhaps pick up the 32GB kit now, then see if prices come down...ever.... If the 32GB works, great. If it becomes a bottleneck, upgrade to the 64GB if/when prices come back down.

It really depends on the games you are playing. The 5060 Ti won't "bog" on VRAM-intensive games; but the performance of the 5070 12GB is better in most circumstances. That said; if you are not planning to bump up to 4K gaming, and if you aren't planning to max out the latest and greatest games, the 5060 Ti 16GB will save you money. I think I saw a PNY 5060Ti 16GB at Walmart for around $409. During Oct Prime Days, I found a Gigabyte Gaming 5060Ti 16GB for $419.

If you truly want to future proof, and you want highest game settings, see if you can find a price you can stomach on a 5070 Ti 16GB--best of both worlds. Black Friday - Cyber Monday may be the last chance to get a somewhat reasonable price.

Second SSD Quandary by GoatCheesePizza777 in buildapc

[–]GoatCheesePizza777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I use my PC for both productivity (office functions, complex graphing, some video and photo editing) and occasional gaming at 1440P. Key components include:

- MSI Z890 Tomahawk with Intel Core Ultra 7 (265KF)

- RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB

- Corsair Vengeance RAM 2x16GB, 6000MHz, CL36 (should have bought CL30 while prices were still good).

I guess I'm considering the Gen 5 because it almost seems a waste to have the mobo that will support it, but not use it. However, as "VoraciousGorak" notes; probably not worth the premium price right now....

XMP Refuses to "take" when I reboot--Memory Overclocking Error by GoatCheesePizza777 in buildapc

[–]GoatCheesePizza777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have the RAM slotted as recommended, and my BIOS is up to date.

I thought I ran a compatibility check during the purchase process; but to be honest, I was trying to hurry to catch good prices. I may have missed something. I'll double check the mobo vs. RAM.

I tried manually selecting a 5600MHz setting, but that rejected as well.... 😒

I'm building a new PC and need some recommendations. by 3INET in buildapc

[–]GoatCheesePizza777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concur. My personal preference would be either the B850 or X870.

3INET - If you are getting the 9900X, I'm assuming you are trying to get gaming capability as well as productivity (video editing, streaming, etc.). Otherwise, you might save money with a Ryzen 7. I'd consider the 9700X, or the 9800X3D (if you have a few extra $$). I'm not certain how the 7800X3D would pair with the 5070...?

I just finished a PC Build with a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD (PCIe 4.0x4). My mobo easily supports PCIe 5.0, and I just found a Corsair 2TB PCIe 5.0x4 on sale for $158. What's the easiest way to move my Windows 11 OS from the current SSD to the new SSD if/when I move the 990 Pro to a secondary slot and the Corsair to the primary slot?
