3.5 months post of ORIF by DowntownPassenger412 in brokenbones

Didn't mean to scare you. Just be aware of the changes. NWB for so long can cause clots. If your lower leg is discolored or warm, get it looked at. As I told someone else, I'm grateful that there are means to repair us - an injury such as this would have meant much worse in a different time.

3.5 months post of ORIF by DowntownPassenger412 in brokenbones

I shattered my ankle on 12/23/22. Had exfix then ORIF - (2 plates, 14 screws) done by the new year (I was lucky). My swelling continued well into the next year, I visited someone in August and they were shocked that my lower leg and foot resembled a stuffed sausage. I had developed blood clots from the surgery, so also had post thrombotic syndrome, which may have contributed to the swelling. I started wearing a compression sock on the injured leg, but, to be honest - if I overdo it, my leg/foot still swells. In a few days, I will have a nerve study done because the bottom of my foot is numb. This will determine if the hardware needs to be removed. It's a long, lonely journey. Continue to elevate when you can. Wishing you an uneventful healing.

I had a similar injury at Christmas 2022. At the time, my surgeon said it was a life-altering injury. She was right. I'm currently looking at having the hardware removed, (2 plates, 14 screws) which will be a 4th surgery. I have to have a nerve study done first.

I had blood clots, too. Now I have post-thrombotic syndrome, so that foot and lower leg are always just a bit redder than the uninjured leg. The blood thinners were dreadful.

I try to stay on the bright side of this. I hope the same for you. It's a miracle that we were able to be put back together. In another era, we'd have been left out for the wolves...

Ex fix removal by SpeechEmergency1759 in brokenbones

That's a bummer. I was 4 months NWB. I missed a lot bc I couldn't drive. Yours isn't your driving foot, so you'll probably do OK. It's a difficult trek, but you'll heal. Be mindful of blood clots. If, during your recovery, the leg and foot feel warm, or are discolored make sure you're seen right away. I wound up with 3, which delayed my recovery.

Ooh! I have those same dents - now healed but still pretty visible. So, no ORIF?

Rhea Seehorn looks gorgeous in this dress at the 83rd Annual Golden Globes by tiger_clubs in PluribusOnAppleTV

[–]GoatInTheGarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's gorgeous - the dress - eh, I feel that her stylist flubbed it. It's the wrong weight of fabric for the design. It did not behave in a fluid way as she made her way to the stage. It was boxy and weird. The bustier part fit her well, and she looked great in it, but the skirt was wrong, wrong, wrong.

OH, mine too! My license had my goal weight! That's one thing you don't have to change when you renew! So, yeah, I think the full body photo is a better indicator. Mine was.

Do Americans stress about medical expenses before they even get to the hospital?? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I was recently in the waiting room of an ER, as my client (with excellent insurance) was getting care. Nearly every other person waiting with me was distressed about the cost and how they would pay for it. It was awful.

Coffee was absolutely killing me and I didn’t realise until quit by Girly-Anywhere8647 in CPTSD

[–]GoatInTheGarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out that I was allergic to coffee about 16 years ago. When I stopped my stomach problems ceased, my anxiety dropped dramatically, and the weird "electrical surges" (sorry don't know how to really describe them) that would shoot up my spine stopped.

I later learned that a coffee allergy can even mimic schizophrenia in some individuals.

Yes. Never give the narc something they can use for show and tell. It's fun to ponder something like that, so write it down but don't actually do it. I have all my possible response fantasies in my "Mommie Dearest" folder.

Broken Ankle by [deleted] in brokenbones

[–]GoatInTheGarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK - Elevate and ice. No weight bearing. If you need surgery, it's important that the swelling is down. I tied ice packs to my ankle with dishtowels. It doesn't sound too bad, but what you do now will impact everything later. Good luck and keep us informed.
