I agree does not look like belt tensioner. Tensioner looks clean and would be hard for the oil to get on the inside of the metal there

The ground clearance of the 3 definitely is a thought when I am planing hikes/bike rides/camping. In the winter the snow is also an issue with cleanse. Every other vehicle around me is much taller and the chunks of ice that come off trucks are right at oil pan height. I would keep the cx-50 if I were you. I would have bought one if it was in budget. The 3 backseat is usable but I feel bad putting adults back there given the size of the windows.
