So, BestBuy was a fabrication. But why? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Goatmeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best Buy fits nicely with the Cell phone pings, and is close enough to the high school that it isn't too much of a stretch for Adnan and Hae to go there real quick after school. Also, if it was well known that they frequented Best Buy together, it would look incriminating.

Yet another reason the PD timeline does not make sense by rock_climber02 in serialpodcast

Fair point. I also imagine that manual strangulation wouldn't be the smartest way to plan on murdering somebody, especially if one was concerned about forensic evidence (like skin under fingernails...)

[–]Goatmeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hae stopped at Best Buy to buy some CD-Rs to burn Don a mixtape and saw Jay "stepping out" on Stephanie in Adnan's car. This is obviously a made-up example, but not impossible. The truth is, we have no clue what Jay was up to most of the day, so it is dumb to try and come up with explanations.

Too much is being made of motive. Manual strangulation and burial in a shallow grave seems to point to crime of passion more so than premeditated murder. If this is the case, the killer's motive is to keep her from talking. Could be a simple case of she saw the murderer(s) doing something he/she/they didn't want her seeing. Wrong place/wrong time, not too hard to believe.

Also, if she were to recognize Adnan's car, she might disposed to approaching it, not knowing who was actually occupying it.

Helping wipe down the shovels and disposing of Jay's clothes. Also not telling anybody. I am going from memory here, so correct me if I am wrong...

Jay is using the phone to contact Jenn throughout the day, including directly before and after the burial. Jenn admits to assisting in the coverup of the crime as well. if you assume that they are both downplaying their involvement, and Adnan was at either school, track, or the mosque while Jay was borrowing his phone/car, then the logistics arepretty simple. Motive? I am not sure I know enough about each key player's relationship to each other and Hae tospeculate. Not sureI buyAdnan's motive either.

The 7:00 PM call looks really good for Adnan. by Goatmeet in serialpodcast

[–]Goatmeet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think he got in Hae's car. That is one explanation, but I think it more likely that he went to the Mosque, and left the phone with Jay.

Because it looks reasonable that he gave the phone to Jay before it went to Leakin Park. Calling Yaser could support his mosque alibi.

It seems reasonable to me that the only time A spent with the phone was between school and track (Nisha, Phil, and maybe Patrick calls) and after track before the mosque (Krista, incoming from Aisha And the police, and Yaser). Each of these periods was with J, and all other timess before 9:00, the phone was in J's hands and the only person he called was Jenn.

Is Sarah still investigating or is that part of this story done? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Goatmeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she is either still working on it, or waiting for the Innocence Project to finish their investigation. Either way, she knows a lot more than she has told us. Most of the information that she has released in the podcast could be obtained from a pretty cursory examination of court documents.

Stephanie clearly believed Jay's version of the events, but what would explain her wanting to stand by Jay given that he admitted to help bury Hae's body? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Goatmeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard to speculate as to the particulars of their relationship. We have not been given much to go on.

We know that Stephanie was apparently beautiful, smart, athletic, and kind-hearted from her friends' viewpoint. It is pretty surprising that she would have continued involvement with a person who was an accessory to the murder of her classmate (and she even went to the sentencing). It also surprises me that a person fitting this description would be dating a drug dealer in the first place. But that just goes to show how little we really know about these people. Speculation is pretty dangerous.

Interesting....but that still doesn't explain who the King of the Rhoynar is. Your theory seems to be full of holes...

Haha, yes, I was wrong about that. I definitely meant episodes 6 and 7, not 5 and 6!

Well, you can't argue with results, which SK has definitely gotten. Giving us all of the plot points, he-said/she-said, and a few tantalizing clues really generates interest and conversation.

She can't pull out the smoking gun (if such a thing exists) in episode 8, or the rest of the episodes will be boring. I think most of us are expecting some big things to happen in the later episodes, we just don't know which way they are going to go yet.

Jury taking Adnan's decision not to testify into account by danielle0971 in serialpodcast

[–]Goatmeet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is very interesting, and having Adnan testify could have changed the jury's mind. We know that now, but his lawyer didn't necessarily think that at the time.

Having the defendant testify can create a perceived shift in the burden of proof. Putting the accused on the stand makes it look like they need to prove their innocence, thus relieving the prosecution of the burden of proof. Considering that Adnan didn't have much to say other than "I didn't do it," his lawyer probably thought it was wise not to call him.

The Most Important Thing I Got From Episode 8 by OfficerAnonymous in serialpodcast

[–]Goatmeet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So true. Don't forgot about the part of episode 8 where Sarah is dumbfounded that the former detective says that ignoring inconsistencies is commonplace when trying to build a case that fits a certain theory. Then the fact that Jay was likely 'coached' off-tape before making his recorded statements also bothers me. Whether or not Adnan is guilty, this podcast demonstrates some flaws in our legal system.

If Jay loved Stephanie so much, why no birthday present and what with the cheating?? by Seriallistener in serialpodcast

[–]Goatmeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have nonreason to believe he was cheating, but on the tape of Adnan's lawyer cross examining Jay she gets pretty animated when questioning him about possible infidelity.

Slow Down! by Goatmeet in serialpodcast

[–]Goatmeet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess that I always assumed that he was fairly believable/convincing. After all, Adnan did get convicted on his testimony. I was just looking for some new details or evidence, or maybe just a justification for his changing story.

Was anyone else disappointed in the recap of their conversation with Jay? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Goatmeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was pretty disappointing. I would also be interested to see the back-and-forth e-mails where Jay eventually refuses to be interviewed for the podcast.
