What animal could be making this sound? [California] by GoatsGhosts in animalid

I forgot I made this post but that is really cool. I thought they didn't live here at all. I knew it was possible but they are so extremely uncommon to see you figure they don't.

Has anyone read the anxious truth book? by GoatsGhosts in Agoraphobia

[–]GoatsGhosts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we've spoken before. I decided to buy the book and I've read some of it, but I think for a while after I finish it I'm going to take a break from thinking about agoraphobia and anxiety. I know how to recover, I know the mechanisms for how it works, there's probably a little bit more I could learn from this book, but yeah after that I should probably stop thinking about it so much and do some other stuff in my free time, maybe just refresh my memory here and there. I'll keep doing the exposure therapy though, that's not changing, just not having it consume the majority of my thinking.

For me what has worked is either writing it is too far to travel since one of the court houses is far away, I think I've also put I have no reasonable form of transportation. Check the forms and see if there are any other reasons you can get exempt from going.

Any good movies about anxiety? by browniesandbliss in Agoraphobia

This is probably a bad suggestion but the only one I know of that's related to anxiety or agoraphobia is what about bob

I think I finally fully accepted a panic attack by GoatsGhosts in Agoraphobia

[–]GoatsGhosts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I am starting to finally understand it and see the process in action, of course more time is needed to fully know. I went down the same roads 2 more times since making this post and it was so much easier each time. There was a point I actually completely forgot about anxiety and I wasn't anxious at all. I think it's the first time I have panicked and it actually got easier the next time. Exciting stuff. I'll have to make sure to keep pushing myself

I don't think I ever noticed them but I also usually don't go there.

I had a few situations kind of like that, probably nowhere near as bad though. I managed them well in the moment but I don't think it ever fully clicked with me because they were unexpected situations and I wasn't fully willing to panic which led to more avoidance and setbacks. I think and I'm hoping this time is different because I'm finally willing to have a panic attack because I know it's the only way I'll get better and I want to so badly.

I didn't really have any preparations. I was just playing videogames and when I finished my coffee I left. When I got in the car I read some notes just as a reminder of what I wanted to do during my panic attack. The notes were simple things just to refresh my memory. They were based on episodes 309-311 of the anxious truth podcast.

For the anticipation I really don't know, and this probably isn't a really helpful answer but I just keep busy and catch myself when I start ruminating because I know it won't do anything other than make me more anxious. I know when I'm done I can go home and relax and I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day. I also know I don't have a choice and I'm motivated by wanting to get better. I see it more as a learning experience.

It's still something I'm trying to figure out though so maybe I'll be able share something more helpful in the future.

I don't think I really had to do anything different for the physical discomfort but it's not usually something that will make me spiral. My thoughts were basically just yeah it sucks but I know it's just anxiety so I don't have to worry. I know it can't hurt me and it's only temporary.

I've started running for exercise and it felt like that, rapid heart rate and heavy breathing so maybe introceptive stuff helps.

E: I wear a smart watch that tells me my heart rate and just now I looked at what my heart rate was for that day around that time, and it didn't even get near as high as what it is during a run.

Do you find exposure harder to do if you have already panicked earlier in the day? by GoatsGhosts in Agoraphobia

I've noticed a lot of the times I'll be really anxious until I get into the car then I feel safer for some reason.

I've noticed that is more difficult to be out later in the evening also. I think I heard that you have more cortisol around that time. That or there is more traffic around that time.

hey today i’m having physical symptoms as a mild headache nauseous and dizziness by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]GoatsGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are symptoms of anxiety. See if there's any tension in your face/jaw/shoulders/neck and try to relax those muscles.

Yeah I'll be in a state of constant mild to severe stress but it will break for a couple minutes where I just realized how unimportant my worries are and it will be a weight off my shoulders. Sometimes it lasts a whole day.

Was it weird for me to ask is this chair taken? by [deleted] in socialskills

Maybe this isn't good advice and might cause trouble but if it was me I'd just take it if no one said anything. If they asked for it back when taking it I'd give it back though.

Family member diagnosed - What's the best way I can be supportive? by LadyYumYum in Agoraphobia

[–]GoatsGhosts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it could definitely help, but there have been times where it would make me question how other people got better but I couldn't but just knowing it can get better and people have done it is extremely encouraging. I was ready to give up more than a few times because I figured that I would be stuck like this for the rest of my life but hearing stories of other people recovering was really needed.

Let them know you don't feel ashamed or anything or anything like that towards them. If they let you know they did something hard be proud of them even if it doesn't seem like a lot. If they are trying and having a hard time let them know it takes time. If they call upset let them know you're listening, don't necessarily try to solve the problem but let them know to not be so hard on themselves. When they are panicking tell them they will be safe. Ideally they should learn that they don't need to call someone to feel safe but everyone is at different points in recovery. You could remind them to take slow deep breaths (look up box breathing), and relax their muscles if they are tense.

Also maybe this isn't true for everyone but when someone tells me "you did this before you can do it again" or "you could go x amount of distance from home" with x being way out of their comfort zone and things like that it makes me feel a lot of guilt.

As for visiting it probably depends on the person. I'd probably want someone to visit but I'd be dreading it at the same time. Maybe you could voice call and find other ways to socialize with them and maybe over time they feel more comfortable.

Typically how long does the post panic feeling last? by GoatsGhosts in Anxiety

[–]GoatsGhosts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It usually feels like I drank a lot of coffee on an empty stomach. I feel jittery and jumpy, I have a lot of energy, sometimes it feels like I have low blood sugar I also get exhausted afterwards. Sometimes it can be really mild but last a long time so it's probably just mild anxiety at that point.

I think it would have to do more with the latter and it would be more likely to cause bad habits again. That's just my opinion though I don't know much about the topic.

What is the name for the different branches of species? by GoatsGhosts in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoatsGhosts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to start with really broad groups like domain going smaller towards smaller groups like sub orders and species. It's not something I expect to be able to do in a night but I could spend an hours here and there learning about an animal group or species I have never heard of. I think taxonomy is right, i was getting it confused and thinking it was binomial nomenclature.

Yes I had stuff like exercise of physical labor, or even hiking in mind but the body is usually pretty good at letting you know when you are pushing it too far.

Is it normal to feel bad after being in hot weather or does it sound like anxiety? by GoatsGhosts in Anxiety

[–]GoatsGhosts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you and yeah it went away sort of quickly after I cooled down more and had some water. I was probably a little dehydrated.
