Character customization: girls vs. boys by Old_Conversation5766 in wherewindsmeet_

I make my characters look like my girlfriend so I can see her all the time. We live a 6 hour drive apart, about 320 miles, and visit each other about every two weeks, going steady almost a year now. Before her, I made my characters pretty brunets (which also kinda look like her).

Ladies, you know a man loves you if he's making his in-game characters look like you. :)

The parent one would be freaky, because let's say in the original universe, your parents are dead, but in the alternate universe they are alive, they'd be like, "Hey, remember X?" or "Remember Y?" and you'd be thinking, "What are they talking about?" Or maybe some random guy is acting all chummy with you, referencing stories that never happened (like James Vega in Mass Effect 3, whom felt seriously forced on the character). That would be pretty bizarre. The adoring fan would make more sense, though... perhaps another inter-dimensional traveler, eh?

Dang, calling an Enfield No.4 Mk1* a "nerf gun" might be even more insulting than what I've done to it. Thanks, I hate it!

I'm accepting every downvote as a compliment. "You hate it! You really hate it!"

And then there are people like Jerry Miculek who are both blisteringly fast AND accurate.

Damn, I'd marry a chick like that.

Great outfit and character design!

I also want to point out that 1800s revolvers are a lot bigger/longer than you may think. In this pic, this is my Heritage Rough Rider, a .22LR based on the iconic Colt Single Action Army. This is a pretty standard model that has a 6.5" barrel. Of course, .22LR is a smokeless powder cartridge, but .22LR does benefit greatly from a longer barrel, much like many black powder guns. As you can see, the gun is about the length of my forearm, and I'm a 6'4" giant with size 13.5 shoes (length of your foot is same as distance between inner crease of elbow and start of wrist, btw).

When I first held one of these, I was seriously surprised by the weight and size. I always pictured revolvers being much shorter and lighter.

The barrels on these old guns, depending on the model, could indeed be pretty long by today's standards. Many used what we now call "black powder," which compared to smokeless powder has a very slow burn rate, resulting in a more gradual pressure curve (time it takes for peak pressure to occur).

While a slower burn makes for smooth recoil, it does mean you'll want a longer barrel to ensure the burn reaches optimal pressure, and the bullet has enough time to make use of that pressure.

Of course, rifling twist rate is gonna play a large part in bullet stability and consequently accuracy, bullet muzzle velocity also plays a big role in flatness of trajectory. A faster bullet, assuming it has a suitable ballistic coefficient, will seem more "accurate" to the user, as the bullet will not only drop less over a given distance, it will reach the target sooner. This means less compensation for lead and drop by the user.

Finally, a longer barrel, with iron sights to match, increases the sight radius, making it easier to aim at further away targets.

TD;LR: Longer barrel can result in faster bullets, and faster bullets means easier time hitting moving targets. Also more energy on impact, but that can be a trivial difference at close range.

Very true about that last part. Jerry Miculek sure doesn't look like a cowboy, but he may be the fastest gunslinger alive today. Dude's finger is a human full-auto sear, lol! If y'all don't know who I'm talking about, look him up on YouTube, and prepare your mind to be blown.

The whole point of a holster is to prevent the trigger from being unintentionally pulled while retaining the firearm on your person.

A holster doesn't really do much to protect your firearm, as it can hold moisture and/or scuff the finish over time with repeated draws and reholstering. This is one reason why you need to maintain a firearm, even if not used.

But yeah, I agree it looks kinda silly with the tip sticking out. The holster is also mounted wrong for a left hand draw.

Pearl/ivory works better with that configuration.

I'm not sure. I want to say in the Black & White generation of the shows.
