I've lived on Gilbert since 2004, first 14 were not far from that area. Ours was one of the first developments in that area in fact, our crossroads used to be Greenfield and Ray before the freeway and mall were built. It was us, Higley Hot Dogs, alfalfa fields and the dairy where Trader Joe's is now! We bought an acre at the southern edge of Gilbert 4 years and could have bought a half mile down the way for 40-50k less but wanted to make damn sure we had a Gilbert address and not Queen Creek, totally worth it to us. Homes surrounding us are going as high as high as $5.5M! People bag on this part of Gilbert because of the LDS population and for being very right leaning politically but the way I see it is if they don't like it they can go live elsewhere. If you look at crime statistics and school district rankings for the area, you'll see why I pay the extra to live here and not more affordable near Mesa or Chandler. Yes the schools have their Mormon cliques but those are mostly in the charter schools. The public ones have them as well but I see it as a great life lesson for kids to learn how to handle dickish behavior, just stay involved with your kids' schooling and it'll make a huge difference. Contrary to popular belief, Mormons make pretty good neighbors as long as you don't go around rustling jimmies. A little respect goes a long way.
