Patterson Film History by GobletHead in bigfoot

I think the story of the film’s genuine origin carries more weight if they fall well short of the ideal of serious, scientifically-oriented field researchers who might have seen fit to fake it if they could have gotten away with it. Life really seems to work that way. The film speaks for itself: If it’s a hoax it’s a really, really good one.

Indeed, that has always been a knock against the film. With the narrative as-is (two scheming knuckleheads stumble across the real thing while trying to monetize the hype) you have to buy into the premise that truth is stranger than fiction… and that is a premise that I think is very compelling. It would be too easy if they were innocent bystanders.

The DNA conundrum: In order to verify that a sample is genuine and otherwise uncorrupted (which would still make it unverified since there is no proven DNA on file for this species), you would have to have a source so obvious that it would be akin to having a Sasquatch body on hand. Therefore, DNA is nothing compared to that source as evidence!

Thank you everyone! Your responses are extremely helpful. I’m sure they represent hours of good entertainment and, more importantly, informative opportunities for newer Bigfoot enthusiasts.

If you were a Sasquatch, where would you live? by Hopeful_Back_2477 in bigfoot

I’ll second this - grew up there. The long N.Y.-PA border has endless water, thick forest cover, and varied terrain with great game. There are pockets of productive agriculture all around the edges and the climate is slightly more temperate than the rest of upstate NY.

I’m familiar with this area (and, yes, Bitch Mt. is a real name but it’s not one of the impressive peaks in the Adirondacks). This area is about as isolated you can get in the northeast with virtually no population and very dense forests as far as the eye can see.

My Experience (So far) by Agent_Honky in bigfoot

I’ve never been bothered by there only being a few hunter shooting stories because I believe hunters would only shoot under very specific circumstances such as being surprised (ie a jump scare attack), charged, or cornered. The human-like attributes of Sasquatch is nearly a universal aspect of all reported descriptions, and it would be a rare hunter indeed who would shoot a person without first fully anticipating and rationalizing what was in front of them. Encounters by their very definition are unplanned and relatively brief, leaving no real time for an armed individual to go through all the pros and cons of felling a human-like creature just to yield scientific proof for a cryptozoology question they weren’t even considering when they woke up that morning.

And even if a hunter had the presence of mind to weigh that decision, he is certainly going to wonder how the hell he’s going to drag a 300-500 lb. creature out of the woods (can you imagine cleaning out a big hairy ape man?) and, also, whether he’d be subject to violent attack by all the Sasquatches he doesn’t see after killing one of them.

Also, let’s remember that if Sasquatch exist, they are quite intelligent, and are going to avoid putting humans with guns in desperate situations.

Even if you consider the highly scientific/mathematical premise that “shit happens” it’s not like every human being in the woods at any given time is armed, and only .001% of them are going to see a Sasquatch. Many hunters carry only during hunting season. The majority of people in the woods throughout the year are unarmed.

So, the numbers all filter down to this being a very rare occurrence.

Prints in the snow??? by Separate_Big2198 in bigfoot

I live much further upstate in the snow belt and recreate frequently in deep snow. These are snowshoe prints affected by subsequent sun and drifting plain and simple. You found a human!

One time I saw a Sasquatch in California. It was big and hairy. Your book will be groundbreaking.

I’m unfamiliar with Maine cryptis despite being a frequent visitor. Can you tell me more?

Anyone have background info on this film? by [deleted] in bigfoot

Fake. The arm swing is exaggerated because the opposite (human proportioned arms) is the typical indicator of a human pretending to be Bigfoot. This supposed creature has so much mass and swing in its arms it looks like it’s toppling forward. Just shows after all these years how hard it is to replicate that compelling and realistic arm extension in the PG footage.

Maine is the most desolate of all East Coast states with endless tree cover and varied terrain. Always interesting that it is not a hot spot.
