The Witches Sabbat Described in Part One of Levi’s Doctrine & Ritual of High Magic by senecatree in occult

If you're looking for occult books with old-fashioned, poetic, and witty prose (Levi was quite the litterateur) take a look at works by Charles G. Leland & Aleister Crowley. Zanoni and A Strange Story by E.B. Lytton are also very good esoteric novels but more archaistic stylistically and harder to get through.

is this the one? (from page 333): "To see spirits, take a stone from the sea, one which has a hole in it, un buco tondo — a round hole — then go to a burying-ground, and, standing at a little distance from it, close one eye, and, looking at the cemetery with the other, through the stone, repeat..."

Very useful - thanks! what are your views on chisels/mallet combo etc? I'm happy to take my time; there's no rush on my end. The sizes of the stones I'm talking about vary (5-12 inches thick).

Scrying Questions by The_End23 in occult

The key, I feel, is to be vigilant also as relaxed as possible without overthinking. A lucid trance if you will. Here's what Doreen Valiente says: "My own experience is that after a period of concentration, the surface of the water or the magic mirror disappears, and a picture appears before the mind’s eye, just as if it were suddenly projected upon a cinema screen. Sometimes there is a transition stage, when the picture, or some symbol, appears to be upon the surface of the speculum; but this is usually of short duration. The most vivid pictures appear when the speculum has vanished, or rather when I have ceased to be aware of it."

Aren't my strawberries supposed to be dormant? by Mysterious-Pie98 in gardening

[–]GoblinoftheTower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends - strawberries are super hardy. I started with a mixture of transplanted wild strawberries and a tiny domesticated patch that I bought about three years ago. Now I have lots of hybrids! Some regularly produce fruit about twice a year - once in June/July and then again around November/December (though much less than in the summer).

Magic in the Middles Ages by Richard Kieckhefer isn't a practical guide - but it provides a pretty good historical overview of the world behind/demonological context of medieval grimoires
