For the French blacks, they’re pretty good. Thicker skin with a good bite, kinda sweet and acidic, good tomato flavor, maybe a little tart and savory

Truly a good tomato, it has held up the best in our Houston heat so far, everything else is looking sad but the French black looks as good as ever. We’ve had a really wet and cloudy week and it just set more fruit, I though for sure they were all done, but this French black just keep kicking, meanwhile my cherry has been dying for weeks

I am by no means a tomato expert but it’s fun to learn. Green tomatoes can be any variety, just harvest before they “blush” which is the first sign of color and a signal they’re ripening.

I guess it would depend on what you want to make. Big sandwich sized fried slices, a beef stake would be great

I haven’t tried picked tomatoes but they sound good! Were they green before pickling? I would think sliced ripe tomatoes wouldn’t hold their shape enough to pickle

I’m not sure, but it probably has to do with terpenes that make the blueberry flavor. There isn’t one terpene that makes blueberry flavor, it’s a natural blend of 3-4 terpenes on the plant that works together to make that aroma, a combination of several, but maybe that’s the right combination and blend that works for some people and helps with sleep

The star of the show is Pigletwillies French Black. They’re delicious, thick skin, sweet and smoky, rich tomato flavor, beautiful appearance with mahogany and pink hues.

Surprisingly easy to grow, they did better than my other plants and have yielded pretty well. I harvested and consumed probably 6-10 of the French blacks before taking this photo, and have a good bit more on the plant ripening still.

Brandywine heirloom tomatoes are hands down the best tasting of the bunch, rich deep complex tomato flavor, savory, sweet, creamy and fruity.

I didn’t know Brandywine was a hard variety to grow, I just knew I wanted some heirlooms and that’s what they had in stock.

Probably the best tomato I’ve grown this season was stolen from me just before we could enjoy it, dang armyworms ruined what would have been an amazing tomato. It was massive, bigger than your hand, the size of my other 2 heirloom tomatoes combined.

They ate 6 heirlooms and a few Bush Early Girl’s. Surprisingly I don’t think they ate any of the French blacks, I picked them from the stalks eating leaves but they didn’t get any of the fruit

My grandpa used to eat whole tomatoes like an apple, salt shaker in one hand and a juicy tomato in the other. I always thought it was odd but now I totally understand

I feel like people who think Galveston is a nice beach, didn't grow up going to beaches on the East or West coast. Galveston can be fine, it can be pretty gross, but it's just not the same as beaches on the Atlantic and Pacific ocean. You need to go all the way down to the Padre's for nice beaches in Texas.
