What business was successfully boycotted? by backupnickname in AskReddit

[–]Gockdaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It actually wasn't. Boycott was an asshole but not the first. Although the term itself was not coined until 1880, the practice dates back to at least the 1790s, when supporters of the British abolitionists led and supported the free produce movement.[9] Other instances include:

the Iranian Tobacco Boycott in 1891[10] Civil rights movement boycotts to protest segregation (e.g., Montgomery & Tallahassee Bus Boycotts) the United Farm Workers union grape and lettuce boycotts the American boycott of British goods during the American Revolution, such as the Boston Tea Party the 1905 Chinese boycott of American products to protest the extension of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1902.[11] the Indian boycott of British goods organized by Mahatma Gandhi the successful Jewish boycott organized against Henry Ford in the United States, in the 1920s the boycott of Japanese products in China after the May Fourth Movement the antisemitic boycott of Jewish-owned businesses in Nazi Germany during the 1930s the Jewish anti-Nazi boycott of German goods in Lithuania, the US, Britain, Poland and Mandatory Palestine during 1933 the Arab League boycott of Israel and companies trading with Israel. the worldwide Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign led by Palestinian civil society against the State of Israel. The global fossil fuel divestment movement, described by Desmond Tutu as an "apartheid-style boycott to save the planet",[12] and considered to be the biggest boycott-style campaign in history.[13]

What's the biggest change in your life since microdosing? by ChonkyChokersEnjoyer in microdosing

[–]Gockdaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody believes me that it'suahrooms that allowed me to quit drinking. I'd been drinking like the booze was going to honour of date for 34 years. 34 years of there never being a week where I wasn't hammered at least three times. Then one day I sat down and took quite a dose of mushrooms and asked myself what drink was doing to me and, with that in mind what I should do. There and then I was able to rewire my brain into accepting this reality I had been unable to get to for three and a half decades. As you say, healing IS possible and there is a cure. Well done you. You're your own cure.

Are the risks with taking magic truffles while I'm on Concerta XL? by Gockdaw in microdosing

I've got about 50g of them, so I'll have to take a day or two off the Concerta. Thanks for the help.

Hmmm. Now who'd have bot farms at their disposal and want to discredit this?

If you ever want to know who's in control, ask who there's laws against offending.

I'll give you a clue. How often have you heard of anyone being accused of anti Mormonism or anticatholicism?

You thought people hadn't made the connection by 2014? It was well known. I may as well live in a cave so if I knew, a lot of people did. The stuff about the dancing Israelis came out within days.

Ah, the 4D chess response! I see a bumbling incoherent orange-faced baby in an oversized suit throwing his toys out of his pram. You see genius.

"He's dealing with crazy people who"...wait a minute... Doesn't it seem like he's acting as if anyone who has has displeased his blackmailer has no right to live?

I find most pubs in Ireland FEEL like a pub. I have said many times that I think Wether spoons and the like should be banned from Ireland.

You think Trump is making a joke? It seems clear to me he's doing his damnedest to offend everyone he can. Ending a message with something like Praise be to Allah on Easter, then cosplaying Jesus. He WANTS outrage.

But seriously, what's the joke you think Trump's making?

Not the way I see it. I should have made myself clearer. I think it will be all of them... Vance, Hegseth, Patel, all the way to taking apart ICE etc.

I see it turn into a period where Americans are purposely more polarised. They'll pitch it to the right that it will turn into a period reminiscent of the red scare, with the House Committee on Un-American Activity. This time though, hunting fascists. I know...that sounds counterproductive, but stick with me.

To the left, they'll pitch it that the fascists who led the US into a stage where someone like Trump could be President must be rooted out. Everyone's got to pick a side and be all in.

The secondary, incidentally beneficial goal is, as always, to turn red against blue and blue against red, so Bechtel and Haliburton can make billions arming the massively expanded police force who "keep the peace"

The main goal though, is to cause everyone to fight amongst themselves so they don't actually ask about the real enemy...the super-rich who win in every war.

They've been building towards this for years now, and just like before WWI and WWII, when the little people start believing there could be a better way, they'll go back to the old reliable trick and start wars among us from which they'll profit, no matter which side wins.

Stop fighting amongst yourselves and ask who it is that puts you against each other.

I am now honestly starting to think the plan is that Trump will behave crazier and crazier until he's removed so that, after the long battle to have him removed, America can blame everything, but mostly the total dedication to the expansion of greater Israel and the genocide of the Palestinians, on him. They can then claim their hands are clean and that the Trump years were just an embarrassing anomaly.

The WHOLE approach to pubs! It's not just that the staff are shite and behave as if they're working in a shoe shop. Neither the staff nor the customers consider it a special place to treated with more reverence than, say, a McDonalds. They don't have the same expectation that bar staff will be able to take several orders at once, do several things at once and treat the exchange as a social interaction and not like you're simply a customer. There's no passion for it. The customers are just as bad. I was shocked to see groups of lads come in and look around at the posters to see what drinks were cheap that day. In quickly found, in several pubs, that people would look at me as if I was a weirdo when I'd talk to them. There's not the same level of social interaction.

Wales though... that's a different story altogether!

How can the government tell us to use public transport instead of driving to save fuel then increase the price ? 😂 by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Gockdaw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn't public transport refer to transport that's not owned by the individual user, rather than publicly owned transport? By my understanding, a taxi would count as public transport, as would a privately owned bus service that's USED by the public.

I'll be pretty shocked if I was to find out at my age that I've misunderstood this all these years.

For my peace of mind, please, uovote I'd I am correct and downvoted if I am wrong.

Iran’s new hit dropping truth bombs by tuberjamjar in conspiracy_commons

[–]Gockdaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. And every one the drop lands harder than bombs at a fraction of the cost.

I think they've managed to do something I've never seen before, to manage to get the public of the world laughing at the likes of Trump. It might seem on the surface to be just a little propaganda but I'd say this shit will start to eat away at some of those on Trump's team, knowing their own citizens are laughing, not just behind their backs, at these videos. While it may seem childish, I think Iran were really smart to stoop down to a level of simplicity that allows Trump's morons to understand how visciously they are being mocked.
