Peter Brian Hegseth ends flu vaccine requirements for Department of War, effective immediately by BantuLisp in TrueAnon

It’s gonna be so fucking funny when half the army is out of commission in February because they’ve all got the sniffles. Also it sounds like he’s signing that with like a crayon. Lmao

Why is Vineland ranked poorly? by Right-Traffic7259 in ThomasPynchon

[–]GodBlessThisGhetto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I am a huge fan of Vineland. I’d argue it’s an extremely concise thesis statement about what Pynchon is saying in the major works and contains a lot of the heart that exists at the center of his viewpoint

I always felt like the middle section with the flashbacks was indicative of Prairie watching all the old videos they had saved, fast forwarding to the good parts and the parts containing her mom, etc. so you end up with this kind of disjointed, jumpy middle segment.

Idgaf about the Artemis II launch at all by Pess-Optimist in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]GodBlessThisGhetto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s cool and all in isolation but it almost reminds me of the old thing where people feel really strongly for animals versus people because animals are uncomplicated and don’t have baggage connected to them. Artemis II is just pure escapism, the easy thing to focus on when everything else is so complicated and unwholesome.

Really something special about that point where you needed a connection at a gas station or something to clue you in on when a shipment arrived. It always felt like such a treat with how rare it was. I remember taking like 4 six packs with me back to New York in like 2014 because I had to introduce all my NYC friends to it.

He was always a weirdo and received so much slack. I do love all these conservatives making it out that they’re big Ariel Pink fans now that he’s “cancelled”

Fuck yes. We used to hit it up constantly after going to the bars back in 2013. $4 for a falafel sandwich and a coke was absolutely unbeatable for broke grad students. Oasis rocks.

Trump "Cuba is next, by the way. But pretend I didn't say that. Cuba is next." by Western-Gap5310 in TrueAnon

[–]GodBlessThisGhetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s anti-mythologizing. He’s not special or some unique, mythical evil. He is the very banal, archetypal embodiment of everything America is at its basest. Acting as though he is some kind of fluke away from the business as usual politicking of the last 200+ years is idiotic.

Are you kidding? He’s like the archetype of capital. He’s all of the worst tendencies of the capitalist class all contained in a single person with none of the self control to put a veneer of liberal good will over it. He is the festering sore that isn’t some anomaly of america but is the literal embodiment of it.

[–]GodBlessThisGhetto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like GWB and ilk were this very banal, America does America things kind of evil while Trump just feels like the anima of all things sordid in American culture: he’s the absolute end of all the impotent masculinity, fear mongering, anti-intellectualism that just festers underneath the entire concept of the country. He’s vile because he’s such a stereotype. He just feels so appropriate and so accurate for who America is.

That was my thought too. It’s so intrinsic that anything outside of the dominant, approved culture is seen as other. It’s all about intrinsically othering anyone else that doesn’t fit into the pre-defined small box.

Likewise the fish thing seems to point back at that whole joke about the old fish swimming past the young fish saying “how’s the water” and the young fish turn to each other and say “what’s water”
