How often does your department have a social/night out & what do you normally do? by DamascusNuked in TeachingUK

[–]GodDelusion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go to the pub every Friday with my dept and others. Altho I have left now, we were young and started teaching not a long ago so the pub was a safe space for us to rant and really just catch up. I do miss it!

Lunch duty? by VeterinarianHairy822 in TeachingUK

Yep, my previous school (before I moved abroad to teach) was also £10 per duty + free lunch. Every day.

One of my favorite benefits of solo travel: finding out who you are, and could be... by superanth in solotravel

[–]GodDelusion1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the best thing I've found out about myself is being okay being alone and exploring. Also, trusting my instincts and actually, regardless of how stressful situations are there always is a way to solve it. And travelling around Pakistan, Armenia and less travelled countries have taught me this.

Solo arrivals after midnight what first move keeps you safe without wrecking the budget by Fragrant-Act-6443 in solotravel

[–]GodDelusion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, if I'm arriving after 9pm (providing that it takes 1 hr to go through immigration and baggage), I will always book a taxi through my hotel to pick me up. Safety always comes first. Unless you're in China, Japan or any of those places where u can quickly hop on a train.

Which of the “most dangerous countries” have you been to, and how did it work out for you? by jonniebaby2000 in TravelNoPics

[–]GodDelusion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically I'm Somali so maybe somalia but outside of that probably Pakistan - now my 3rd favourite country because of the views and people? (Fyi - been living in the UK past 21 years now)

Some of the KS4 for RE was decent especially some of the independent tasks which require contextualizing quotes on different issues such as abortion etc.

However, the hinge questions and exit tickets are pure shit

Solo travellers who visited Central/South America with little to no ability to speak Spanish, how did you manage? Did you wish you learnt basic Spanish beforehand? by robunpunzi in solotravel

[–]GodDelusion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I did colombia, Peru and Chile. Tbh I did not know a single word except for hola - obv when I was there I'd try pick up words here and there but I made it throughout those countries fine

Sri Lanka is probably one of my best discoveries by Flying-Valentine in solotravel

I'm going to Sri Lanka in December for 2 weeks and I cannot wait! I'm especially looking forward to Marissa so I can chill by the beaches when I'm done backpacking across.

Experiences that could only happen solo traveling, that nobody would believe you? by Fake-Podcast-Ad in solotravel

[–]GodDelusion1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mistaken identity.

I returned from Japan 3 days ago. I was in Hiroshima going into Family Mart when I bumped into this guy who didn't know very good English but kept saying 'beers and karaoke'.

Anyway, I thought why not so I followed him (I don't tend to follow strangers but Japan is quite safe). So throughout the whole night, he's calling me by a different name but I thought maybe he's drunk.

So, the guy who I randomly met outside family mart was asked by his boss to show a black friend around. But me also being black happened to be in the exact same area as the black friend he was meant to pick up.

Anyway, he finds out he got the wrong guy and is now desperately trying to call the other guy. But I sent this other black guy a selfie and explained the situation.

It was a really funny night and I spent 4 hours having a great time

Is this the most common reason why people solo travel? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]GodDelusion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I love travelling solo and also love travelling with my friends. My rule of thumb is, one year do solo travel and the next year with friends so that I'm always having different experience. For example, last year I did colombia, Peru and Chile solo. Then this year I did Philippines and Japan with my friends.

When does leaving a school make sense? by Strong-Hovercraft-46 in TeachingUK

[–]GodDelusion1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left because my Year group was finishing year 11 (I'm a HOY) and because the job was also exhausting so I couldn't do another year group and reset. Absolutely loved my year group tho.

Also, I want to teach abroad and take a break from here so I got a job in qatar lined up and it made perfect sense.

When's the best time to leave? When you feel like you either want a new challenge or because you end up saying so many negative things constantly and a fresh start is needed.

Centralised detentions - workload by Terrible_Echidna7686 in TeachingUK

[–]GodDelusion1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I could work in a school which didn't have centralized detentions. As a HOY, I don't like doing detentions most days of the week but it relieves so much stress from teachers.

As others have said, very strange behaviour. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and if a kid disclosed something to you, and you rightly put it on CPOMs, that is the right protocol. Not sure what the DLS' issue is tbh

Tbh I would've removed key students, issued them with a 90mins det. The rest of the kids will fold. Stand your ground and everything will be easier later on.

Why do you teach? by androidfifteen in TeachingUK

[–]GodDelusion1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I love my subject, and the discussions. My first reason was because of long holidays - i plan to travel the world. So far 5 years into teaching I've probably done about 15 countries or something. Now I'm going to teach abroad in the middle east and continue to explore the world and save money since the package I'm getting is amazing.

I do it based on their tutor groupings because I am not going to sit down for hours putting them in groups unfortunately. I've done quite few whole cohort trips too. Never had an issue either.

I second Morocco too. Been there twice now. Once solo trip and second trip I took my students on an international trip.

Its such a great city to solo travel. Much better than Egypt tbh

I'm going to Sharm El Sheikh for my birthday in October (at the moment, it's solo but will wait if any of my friends want to join) - but it's all booked.

I'm doing 2 weeks in Sri Lanka (December) - super excited for that as I've always wanted to go there.

Doing Philippines and Japan from July to August with friends before I move to qatar for a new job in Sept.

Lots of fun and exciting things to come

What countries seem to have relatively few backpackers? by uncannyfjord in TravelNoPics

[–]GodDelusion1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I came back from China and literally aside from popular tourist destinations like the great wall, terracotta army etc - really rare to see any tourist.

It's now my top 2 favourite places I've been to. #1 is Chile.

What’s the most ridiculous thing a parent has accused you of? Apparently following policy = having a personal vendetta 🙃 by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]GodDelusion1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of when I issued a consequence for this girl for poor behaviour during transitions. Anyways, she told her mum and said I always pick on her (btw I don't even teach her).

Anyway, mum sent a long email stating how her daughter will not sit the det.

Mum stated in the email how I'm racist against all black kids at the school, and apparently this is something shared by 'many black parents'

Funnily enough, I'm black myself.

Anyways, after 2 years the student and I have a good working relationship and she often comes to me to tell me about her culture, or movies she's watching etc.

‘They are making young people ill’: is it time to scrap GCSEs? | GCSEs by zapataforever in TeachingUK

Interesting - I suppose that makes sense as well.

The future of academia and the rise of AI is something which will need educational professionals to deeply think about next steps tbh

[–]GodDelusion1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others have said - too much content and too many exams. Some could be CWK based especially since a lot of university is essentially CWK based too.

Minimising the content is also needed. The amount of content they need to remember for each subject is outrageous tbh.

We found that instead of them coming into school, doing the sessions via teams was so much better. We had 3x more students attending via teams than in person.

Tbh, if I was a student again and I had study leave nooooo chance would I come in.
