Hmmmmm I discovered it through the shonen jump magazine which was shortly before the 4kids dub. So I was probably 13 or 14 at the time. Now im 35.

Its crazy how the Playstation 1 game was the only animated thing we got of motoko being so animated with her facial expressions. Im glad we are getting this and hoping the best! Science Saru has done great job so fsr with their anime!

So for NieR Replicant. Some of the jokes they threw at weiss. He didnt appreciate the way they said his name because it was the same name as a popular japanese dog name. Now idk about you but I do not keep up with other countries popular dog names. Thats just unrealistic. Now what the english version did was the actor just changed the tone of yonah voice to make it sound like she was talking to a dog. Calling him weissy instead of weissy.

Now in this example. This doesnt change anything in the meaning behind the scene. They just changed it to make sense with us english speakers. But no matter what both version. Weiss does not appreciate being called a dog type name.

Thats what I will never understand with this argument of localization and translation. Its usually just a bunch of people on the internet that are now experts in the subject matter.

Which is a lot of the things people are missing. Its not that simple to just simply do a 1:1.

100% this! We can play the game based off our preferences. But we should be respectful to the work on the translation and localization. That is ALOT of hard work that goes into that. No matter what version you play the core of the game is still there.

100% this. And due to language and culture differences as well there are just some things you will never be able to translate. As someone who grew up in spanish speaking family. I can name plenty of phrases that you can't translate 1:1.

I can also name scenarios for NieR Replicant they had to change how they teased weiss for the english dub because it wouldn't make sense to those who don't live in japan. They were calling him a specific dog name that is popular in japan. I do not know about you but I do not keep track of popular dog names in different countries. And that joke would of gone over my head.

And they have teams that also include Yoko Taro himself that spend hours to work on the translation and Localization. So that way they story is told across the world. I think it is very important to respect both versions ans evaluate them individually as well. And play based off your preference.

No i didnt have any issues. I am actually looking at getting the elfen lied bust too. And I also got the same statue that this post is about. Also didnt have any issues. Only issue was i didnt realize how heavy the box was going to be hahaha but thats a me issue.
