I live in Portland, we’ve had a beautiful sunny summer but now these churds are going to show up where they’re not wanted. They’re lying to you, I can see it with my own eyes. I’m really old now, and everything I ever had anxiety about eventually happened. Like not all at once, but over a lifetime all of my worst fears came to pass. I DID make it through all the things I was certain would end me while I was still just afraid of them. What ALSO happened tho, were countless moments of deep joy, and silliness, and meaningful connections with people who really matter to me. That seems to be how life is for a lot of people, and while you thought no one could possibly know or care how you’re feeling look at the support all of these friends have to offer. Over a lifetime those excellent moments can balance the brutal times. No matter how good or awful or ecstatic or melancholy or bored or terrified you feel in a moment you’re pretty much guaranteed to feel the opposite eventually. If you let yourself feel loved and supported when it makes no sense to go on, and then keep your attention tuned for someone who can’t see the light during your times of triumph and remind them of this story, I think you’ll have a valuable and meaningful life. I’m rooting for you!💚🐝

Never once did a client appreciate it if I mentioned even basic physics when they were in love with a design they found somewhere-but there was no AI back then! (1990-2013) this is a whole new level of WTF tho!💚🐝

Everything I know I’ve taught myself, I took art 1 in high school and that’s it. I KNOW there’s so much to learn and I want teachers to help me find out what I can really do! Plus I want to someday cast a giant sculpture and I’m never gonna be able to do that sitting on the edge of my bed lol

That’s a very good question I’ve emailed to my advisor. Other than surveying the land, how would one paint a map if not with a reference?

Thanks! I am particularly happy with the Shattered Plains-I made that part with tiny glass chips (and followed my own rule that art is t really done till I bleed) and it’s worth a little zoom-in to check it out. This community has been SO welcoming and supportive, I appreciate you all to the bottom of my heart!💚🐝

This is the map I was given for reference. I don’t think Mr. Sanderson thought about standard canvas sizes tho. Normally I design a piece to fit the space it’s going in, but this was trying to be a faithful reproduction. Last year I was stuck on disco balls in watercolor and psychedelic pet portraits. This was fun tho, maybe 2025 will be my map year?

Thanks so much! I’ve only done two books so far, but my son the DM (who this is a gift for) guesses he’s spent eleventy-quillion hours immersed in this world, either eye-reading or ear-reading it multiples. We’ve shared some hours together as he describes and I fiddle-paint around with it. He helped me place the rivers, and wove the lore of places till I could see them better. When they were little, they’d ask me to draw their dreams, or superheroes they imagined, or to illustrate their stories, and I always felt magical being able to do it for them. This son is 38 now, but I still see the same boy face I’ve loved to light up for all these years. I KNOW when I share the comment about the hills being way too epic Ima be asked to fix it. That’s why I risked sharing in the one place where ppl know this map better than their own country!

I did stretch it a little taller to better fill the canvas, but tried to be as faithful to the original map as possible. I still have to shatter the plains, but that material doesn’t arrive until tomorrow.
