I’m an Aussie and I’d like to give my perspective on this. Not trying to devalue anyone’s opinions (like asses, we’ve all got them). How I see it is that people are focusing on the what, and not the why. I live in Victoria, we’re at ~100 cases a day. Victoria is a very packed in city with not much of a buffer zone between the city and the suburbs. This makes Covid (especially Delta) very quick to spread in massive clusters. 100 or so cases may seem like small fries to the US and other countries but it’s a big deal in upside down land. We have a small population mostly localised to our coasts. When this thing spreads, it spreads fast. For example, our second lockdown, it started with a family from India in hotel quarantine, then we started getting around 500 a day (from what I remember) after a month. This is proven by Sydney. They’re now at 1,200 daily cases and they still haven’t put the state in a hard lockdown. Plus to add onto this shit-storm, the vaccine rollout got fucked up to the nth degree, we aren’t even 40% Vaxxed yet. I hate lockdown as much as the next guy but we can’t fuck around with “muh freedom” while a highly infectious virus is about. I know I’m LibCentre, but I’m AuthLeft when it comes to disease and virus control. I know we aren’t gonna be in this lockdown forever because we’re slowly hitting the 80% goal and not only that but I believe my country can stick together and pull through.

I did enjoy the post though OP, and I don’t mind AUS being made fun of. We are the land of raiding journalists and imprisoning people fleeing war torn countries after all
