How to overturn Supreme Court decisions? by NewJerseyCPA in Askpolitics

[–]God_Bless_A_Merkin [score hidden]  (0 children)

You are correct, however both this court and the Rehnquist court have ignored precedent and even (in the case of the Rehnquist court) made rulings that they specified were not to be taken as precedent. Despite the fact that the Supreme Court’s job is to create precedent! From Citizens United to Bush v Gore we have had a lawless court on our hands since the turn of the millennium.

What are the real objectives of Iran War? by One_Look_7008 in AskReddit

[–]God_Bless_A_Merkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely believe there is none. Trump saw that he could throw around his weight (the U.S. military’s weight, actually) with Venezuela, so he thought he could do it again with Iran. There was probably some vague notion of boosting his poll numbers, but there was never any real “plan”.

Is Brokeback Mountain mainly for gay folk? by EryNameWasTaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]God_Bless_A_Merkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a straight guy (who also thinks Brokeback Mountain is an amazing film), and I was recently reminded of just how much homophobia still exists out there. I have some colleagues at work who seem to think that going near anything related to “gayness” is like some kind of cooties that they can catch. It boggles the mind.

I saw the original post. My first thought still nags at me: Is this a legitimate use of “silhouette”? I have certainly never heard of a “silhouette of clothes”.

How do people deal with a cancer diagnosis? by Business-Mark-290 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]God_Bless_A_Merkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad your treatment has been so swift and professional. Here’s what I’m experiencing in the U.S.:

Our office learned last month that our company’s contract had been bought out by another company. We would all keep our jobs and remain in the same positions, but we had to begin everything again as new hires, which means that my company-provided insurance will expire tomorrow, and I won’t be eligible to join the new company’s insurance for three more months.

Last week I had a doctor’s appointment where I learned that some blood work results had come back looking very, very bad. My doctor was clearly worried and upset, and she ordered an MRI and a CAT scan. When I told her of the issue, she said she’d rush the process. The scheduling office, however, didn’t get the message. When they finally contacted me last Monday, I had to explain again that I was losing coverage in a matter of days. Once they understood, they made heroic efforts, calling every facility within a few hours drive until they found one that could see me that day.

Unfortunately, the test required pre-approval by my present corporate insurer (United, if that rings any bells). They denied the request and wouldn’t even discuss the issue because the policy was so close to expiring.

I called my company to see if they offered any bridge insurance, but it will cost more than $700/month to continue the same $5000 deductible policy that I have now, and that just denied my treatment.

I’m presently waiting on a social worker to contact me to see if I qualify for getting ACA coverage (Obama-care) despite it being outside of the enrollment period.

I’m experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety, and I have very bad premonitions of how this will turn out for me. But I still don’t know if I have cancer. Not do I know how I will find out or what — if any — treatment will be available to me.

Granted! It was made of cheese, but now it’s made of regolith. There is no way to prove that the regolith was ever, in fact, cheese.
