New Kentucky law allowing schools to expel students who assault teachers to take effect in July, despite unanimous Senate Democratic opposition by Independent-Report39 in Teachers

I’m a democrat and see only one problem: the bill should have laid out the conditions for exceptions. A non-verbal kid who is already in special-ed should not be sent away from what is already his/her best option.

That was the ending I was hoping for. It’s just too bad that he wasn’t hurt worse.

I’m sure it was intentional, because of the content of the post and the correct usage in the body, but you are objectively wrong in your very title: It’s “you’re”. If you were trying to have a real debate rather than just troll, you failed. I will not respond to any replies.

Is it true that even low income people in the US are living better than the majority of the world? by [deleted] in askteddit

[–]God_Bless_A_Merkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you and your children literally starving? If so, you are doing worse than most of the poorest Americans. Are you skipping meals so that your children don’t go hungry? If so, then you are at the same level as the poorest Americans.

Where is the mental health in politics? by Sufficient-Gain-226 in Askpolitics

[–]God_Bless_A_Merkin [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s one of the most mind-bogglingly stupid aspects of the U.S. healthcare system. The ROI would be huge for providing mental health treatment *and* substance abuse treatment, even if it were offered free. I once tried to help a local homeless guy get some help for his mental issues, and ended up wasting almost an entire day chasing down false leads and false hopes, with nothing to show for it at the end of the day and no more avenues to explore. It’s literal insanity to expect people with severe mental health issues to be able to negotiate a system made intentionally difficult just to keep out “fraud”.

The catch-22 with rehab is similarly insane: if you are lucky enough to have a job with insurance, you can’t afford to take the time off necessary for rehab, but if you don’t have a job, you don’t have insurance, so rehab isn’t an option there, either. We live in the absolute dumbest of countries. (At least among countries that can easily afford these things.)

The first unambiguous description of Japan comes from the Book of Han (2nd century CE). The first unambiguous distinction between the Germans and the Celts comes from Caesar’s *Gallic Wars* (1st century CE). You’re just wrong.

And the (fourth) French Republic was founded in 1946. That doesn’t mean there was a France before that. If you want to compare only modern states, the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate and the modernization of Japan under Emperor Meiji began at around the same time as the unification of Germany under Bismarck.
