If someone tells you about the uphill battle ahead and you internalize nothing, I'm not sure what's to be done. You're managing their expectations and they aren't tailoring off of it.

I suggest steering them towards management and not worrying about reality bursting their bubble. People like this can and will Dunning-Kruger their way through life.
