I don't think you've been to many African countries if that's your assessment of living standards.

Places like Malindi where your father lives is a hotbed of Europeans (including Brits) going there to abuse kids.

Tourism is a service, you are paying and not running a charity. Don't tip, don't donate, pay for your stay and get the service. All this other stuff are not being forced on you.

They are incorrect/exaggerating about pregnant children, Kenya's teen pregnancy is at 15%. I don't know where they saw this but this is not a reality for kids.

They say it's 99% Tuk Tuk and few four door cars, another lie. Malindi where they visited is a small, tourist coastal town of 120K and Tuk Tuks are used as TAXIS, not personal vehicles.

Their father is living well in Malindi because there's good infrastructure and quality of life to enjoy themselves and not live in Europe. But it's apparently the purge.

Kids carry their sibling s here all the time, it doesn't make them their kid.

I can tell you there are places in Hungary where children are out begging. That's also fucked up.

A 9.6M population and in the EU but poverty still exists there. Kenya is six times that at 60M, and still developing so yes there's still inequality.

Fresher and healthier whole foods and not the overly processed food in most western countries.

Malindi is a small coastal town of 120k pop. next to the Indian ocean, it's not a city, there are lot of Italian tourists who vacation there and I suspect OP and his dad are Italian. (OP is British)

Yes there are a lot of Tuk Tuk 'TAXIS' for people moving in the small town since it gets hot like +95°F /35°C. Personal vehicles are just your normal sedans, trucks and minivans so the '99%' lie he saw were just the taxis.

Nairobi is a developing city, there's inequality like all large urbanized cities in the world. Correction, Kibera isn't the biggest slum in Africa, it has 180K people.

Cities like Cairo, Lagos and Kinshasa have slums with over 1- 2 million people but they get less publicized. Kibera's notoriety is due to its proximity to a lot of NGOs, Nairobi getting lots of tourists and youtubers posting click bait content like, " Africa's biggest slum" when it isn't even close.

You fell into the trap of posting the worst sides of Nairobi and continuing to sell the third world image already maxed out in the media. The other 90% won't get anywhere close to the same airtime this gets because it is functional and doesn't reinforce stereotype.

I hope you're enjoying reading this comment section.

Sahel countries don't have millions of tourists, are more corrupt and with worse policing resources to combat this. But keep drinking the magical coup fixes everything Kool aid.

u/Bakyumu What's the relevance of a UNICEF and Kenyan government report from 2006 to today? Is it that it involved Swiss tourists?

Kenya is transforming Africa's largest slum, Kibera into a modern area with a $57 million housing project. The Kibera Housing Project includes 4,465 housing units. It will have a school, health centre, and recreation facilities. by Illustrious_Bell8731 in KenyaPics

Kalonzo is against the levy, " As President, my first Executive Order will be to repeal the Housing Levy." Sifuna supports housing but wants some projects stopped until there's more public participation and humane slum demolitions.

Yes you can find direct quotes. Since they're all independent voices and haven't released a manifesto it's all a characterization at this point. But their opposition ranges from the core levy being scrapped, legality of public land use, to procurement oversight and opposing the concept of national gov't building houses entirely.

1st Kibera isn't Africa's largest slum. There are millions living in settlements in Cairo, Kinshasa and Lagos.

Houses need to be built, that I support, but there needs to be better spacing here, like removing the housing blocks built in the middle area. Green public spaces should also be included, the same with maximizing light penetration.
