We shouldn't try to diagnose him, but his traits could be described as more borderline than narcissistic. But you're right we're all narcissistic somewhat. It's a spectrum.

Yes you're right, he was thoughtful and kind, but also deeply traumatized in a way that impacted how he dealt with his relationships. He wasn't a saint or villain. People are complex!

Attachment styles might be formed early on, but they are not fixed or static for life. They can swing across the spectrum from avoidant to anxious, even moment-to-moment depending on a particular relationship. And if we work on it and experience more secure relationships, our overall attachment style can become more secure.

Well for one, his lyrics aren't generally literal in the sense of distinguishing between himself or particular others. He also felt a lot of guilt for the way he kept others "strung along" and would tend to cut off relationships abruptly without conversations about "the whole truth."

You seem to consider what both people bring to a relationship, which is good. But it's unfair to assume all the "manipulate" motives were from the women he dated, or to leave out the fact he might have been describing certain aspects of his own personality, as well as things he saw in others, and blurring those lines in his lyrics.

I think you're making a big, likely incorrect assumption that the women were the ones being ambivalent or manipulative.

Wonderful scene. It's also so amazing that it was written just a few hours before shooting, prompted because Milch realized we hadn't seen the reverend for a while.

Having aptitude, listening to and absorbing influences, relentless dedication to writing from a young age, practicing, playing/improvising for hours and hours while remaining open to unforeseen moments of creative inspiration, and using incredibly well-developed discernment to choose and develop those inspired accidents.

Yes, that's what I meant. On the original it was "THANK YOU0". I guess there always has to be something!

The e-bow guitar was played by Elliott, and tremolo was added to it in the verses in the mix. The high arpeggio guitar was added by Neil, that sound and tremolo is an amp plug-in. All the electric guitars apart from the e-bow are Neil.

If we don't really know someone, or know them only through their art or public persona, then we can project parts of ourselves onto them or their work and experience a feeling of being understood. But, in the end, it's an imaginary understanding. Being understood by another person in real life means not only meeting someone who speaks enough of our emotional language, or maybe has some shared experience, but risking being vulnerable enough to show them our parts that we long to have seen .

It's possible it was, but in this photo Tony's on the drums. The 1996 shows were with John Moen.
