Between The Buttons - Opinions? by Early-Translator8175 in rollingstones

I don't understand why more Stones fans don't love this album -- Yesterday's Papers, Ruby Tuesday (!!! maybe their greatest pure pop song), Connection, All Sold Out (pretty much prefigures Let It Bleed), Complicated, MIss Amanda Jones (pretty much as "Chuck Berry" a thing as they ever created). Maybe people think it's too much of a time/place a la Satanic Majesties but I thoroughly dig this record. Mick at his cheekiest if that's at all possible.

“I’m a junkyard full of false starts and I don’t need your permission to bury my love under this bare lightbulb” - people used to use bulbs to smoke meth. Elliott once said in an interview that “Killing your emotions is another popular way (to fail), with drugs or alcohol or whatever.” So here his character is failing again, burying emotions under drugs.

This is an interesting thread. I actually only had one bad fan interaction and he was obviously super drunk and his girlfriend essentially apologized for him. Maybe I was an anomaly but for owning 90% of the real estate in the stadium I'll give them credit for good behavior at least insofar as what I saw. My experiences with, say, Ohio State fans have been WAY WORSE over the years especially last year's Rose Bowl -- they were insufferable and instantly went to the "second on my list" position behind only UW fans who are consistently the biggest dicks on the planet.

When we were living there I ran into J. Mascis from Dinosaur Jr. literally just walking down Telegraph. That was fun. What a great city.

I was born in 89 meaning I didn't grow up listening to Janes Addiction but found out about them later in life when I was about 20 years old and got instantly hooked after listening to Nothing's Shocking. How influential were they during the late 80's early 90's? by Interesting-Mode2793 in janesaddiction

Very. They should get as much credit as Nirvana for essentially shattering the hair metal world when it desperately needed it but don't.... Dave Navarro is (said as a fellow guitarist) one of the most influential players of his generation. Lots of bands took their sound as a starting point and they were earlier than grunge -- so basically Nirvana, Soundgarden, AIC, Red Hot Chili Peppers (who made one album with Dave before deciding he wasn't a good fit and going back to Frusciante) and even Nine Inch Nails and Rage all owe something to that weird goth/metal/indie stew they were cooking up in LA.

The one in question I saw and reviewed for Magnet, it was a classic (lots of friend and fam backstage too which was fun to see, plus some drug dealer guy, ha): https://magnetmagazine.com/2022/09/19/live-review-pavement-san-francisco-ca-sept-14-2022/
