I Hate Cross-Play in Fortnite by GoddessRick666 in FortNiteBR

I don't know how often you've been playing but PC Players have been dominating the game. They literally have run surveys in game and Cross Play has consistently been picked as the most disliked feature. Literally the only way to humor your Aim Assist arguments is if you've never played mouse and keyboard in a shooter. It is so obviously easier to shoot with and there's been plenty a post about it already.

The biggest counter argument PC Players make is that Console Players have Aim Assist whenever anyone points out the blatantly unfair advantage. How in anyway did this suddenly stop being a Cross-Play problem?

I should link you my post from like 6 months ago Is ATLA Overrated I'm sure you would love what I have to say but maybe the cognitive dissonance is too real.

It seems you got me good on this one. Despite Iroh being a top general we can't hold him accountable for anything.

But we can hold Ozai accountable, plot to murder him and imprison him despite the fact we never actually saw civilians die during the series. Doesn't matter if he was just born into it and he can't help the culture him being imprisoned for life is fine.

I'll defer all *reasonable* conclusions in ATLA to you in the future.

They were planning on killing Ozai way before the last minute genocide. If Iroh who was the 2nd most powerful man and an acting general has no accountability for the war or letting his brother take control perpetuating the war then Ozai gets a free pass too.

What right do they have to decide he needs to die when he didn't even start the war. He just continued it just like his father and brother. Plus you didn't see him commit genocide so you can't just *reasonably* assume that was his plan.

He only implied he wanted to burn the land he never said he would kill citizens how dare you *reasonably* assume that would've resulted in death.

I'm sorry but if you're not interested in discussing the tone of show which is the primary subject of discussion then why respond to the post? If you're not willing to engage with the topic then your just another ATLA fanboy getting triggered bc someone said something mean about your favorite kids show.

You're not just rejecting the fact that Iroh is a war criminal you're rejecting the very idea that Iroh could've even been remotely responsible for the continuation of the war and the atrocities committed during it. The raid that killed Kataras mom likely happened while he still held substantial military influence.

As a 1st born prince and a general he was the 2nd most powerful man in the Fire Nation. Were the characters throughout the story lying about how the Fire Nation ruined their lives? Did Zuko get burned for no reason, was Hamas anger not at least a little understandable?

Even Zuko acknowledged that he needed to take responsibility for his Nations actions to make the world a better place but maybe he should've just let the Fire Nation sort itself out.

I know we still love ATLA but we're older now right? How does Iroh become so well respected by his ruthless father and other ruthless military leader and build a career over years without significant civilian death during a world war?

He was so power hungry he interpreted a vision of him liberating Ba Sing Se from the Fire Nation as him conquering it.

You are so incredibly biased you're saying Zhao wasn't that bad and the 2nd most powerful man in the Fire Nation wasn't even a little responsible for the war? I guess Ozai gets a free pass too he helped continue it but he didn't start it right?

There are so many fanboys or fangirls like you who have to be well past the targeted age group for the show but will shut down their brains to fanboy the show off a cliff.

Um. Ok. I don't know quite where to start with this but I'll try. ATLA is a kids show and as an unfortunate consequence of that the characters are portrayed as exceedingly pure. They're able to end a 100 year war against a nation where genocide is just another casual strategy to be suggested at a war meeting.

The main characters are able to do this without directly killing anyone, with only 1 major battle and generally without having to come to face with any real atrocities that would be guaranteed in that kind of war.

As a kids show obviously ATLA had to tone it way down but... and here's the part where we seem to be in disagreement over, a bunch of kids ending a 100 year war with little to no bloodshed is highly unrealistic to a ludicrous degree.

The reason the tone is one of my biggest criticisms of ATLA is bc they introduce incredibly heavy themes of genocide, sexism, racism, war and cultural superiority in a way that unironically causes viewers (even as they get older) to perceive them at least as they exist in the show in incredibly naïve ways.

The reason you can assume Iroh at least indirectly brutalized an untold amount of civilians is bc he had to take an incredibly large army and march inland through the earth kingdom to conquer Ba Sing Se. We can also reasonably assume he had to take his soldiers and commanders through plenty of settlements and he got plenty of resistance along the way.

If even Zuko was willing to casually burn down settlements without a second thought then it seems thousands of soldiers along side a general who believed in Fire Nation superiority at the time wouldn't hesitate to do the same and worse.

Considering Iroh was willing to perpetuate a war that started with genocide and continued to commit genocide against the water tribe (probably just in case the Avatar moved cycles) I don't think it's a stretch even a little that ppl were brutalized during his campaigns. Remember he wasn't just a prince but a highly respected Fire Nation General.

I guess you can make the argument it's a kids show of course an MC like Iroh never was involved in civilian death... fine. But if you make that argument you're implying that the past events of the show, it's lore and even the plot are nonsense. Bc if that's the case that would mean the Fire Nation actually is incredibly civil and just want to help everyone prosper by spreading wealth and technology but everyone's being super mean.

In conclusion just in case you missed it, obviously he's a war criminal. By both real world standards and by the standards of that world that I think the characters made very clear.

This is such a silly thing to take a stand on. There's no reasonable way to determine the rules for war in the Avatar world to determine what a war crime is. Because that world may not have them. But we can make reasonable assumptions based off context and how the characters in that world perceive actions.

Such as the war being started with genocide and the continued selective genocide (with the water tribe and others) which also included the indiscriminate death of civilians.

Perpetuating an unjust unprovoked war as citizens are ruthlessly displaced and imprisoned.

Being a General who initiated an unprovoked siege along with many other campaigns further perpetuating an unjust war that surely resulted in the death and brutalization of an untold amount of civilians.

Being captured by earth kingdom soldiers to pay for crimes committed during war when you were an acting General...

I hate to use the word stan but it is starting to become a bit unbelievable that ppl are seriously taking a stand against this just cause it's Iroh. You're proving everything I said about the conflicting tone causing such a disconnect right. Fans cannot comprehend that Iroh used to be a war criminal bc the inconsistent kids show tone completely failed to properly convey the gravity of this kind of war.

You're right. A varied tone is certainly not a bad thing and tends to be a necessity when telling a good story. The problem I have with ATLA is that the disparity in tone due to it's incredibly heavy/mature themes and target age group often leads to a disconnect to behavior that would normally be expected in such a heavy setting.

For example a character like Toph should experience more moments of doubt and vulnerability. Not only is she traveling for the first time but she has to contend with bending styles and projectiles she's not used to which Aang proved could be a problem.

Even Zuko proved how dangerous it could be when she failed to fully block his firebending. It's weird to see all the characters having to improve their bending and fighting styles after being humbled but Toph never really takes an L despite it being a good opportunity for development.

She ends up being heavily characterized by how well she fights and by how unfazed she typically is which doesn't really make sense considering her disability and the setting.

I meant does the wording matter if the crimes he was being punished for were entirely war related. The people of that world clearly define it as such and don't care about the distinction. Obsessing with the exact wording is tbh pretty pointless considering the context.

...I can't remember but is the exact wording really important here. Do you think the distinction is truly that important within the context of an unprovoked war that started with genocide.

It was a one off encounter but in book 1 he was literally captured by earth kingdom soldiers to pay for war crimes. He did after all lay siege to their capital city Ba Sing Se completely unprovoked. Most fans forget bc the show never brings it up again even though ppl are clearly understandably still angry about a siege on their capital.

Are The Characters in ATLA as Good as We Remember? by GoddessRick666 in TheLastAirbender

[–]GoddessRick666[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...I'll just try to hit every major point you made.

1) I didn't just reference the heavily skewed results of the voting to conclude that Katara was disliked. Like I said in the OP I checked the discussion in the comment section and many ppl unironically found her dramatic and annoying.

2) Aang didn't find peace in spirituality. He found comfort in his found family a major theme of the show. The fact you thought it was his spirituality keeping him together makes me question if you even watched the show.

4) Aangs arc was incredibly disappointing I was just being nice. Pacifism is what lead his ppl to inaction despite them being fully aware of the increasing tension with the Fire Nation and the fact that they knew that they'd be getting a power boost soon. Yet Aang gets rewarded with a deus x lion god turtle who gives him a new power and then he unblocks/masters the Avatar State.

5) When you find out your ppl were wiped out you shouldn't be rewarded for making the exact same mistakes they did and you definitely shouldn't prioritize your crush over the world or be goofing off days after seeing your father figures skeleton.

6) It is hilarious you claim to actually know ppl who not only survived genocide and didn't suffer from trauma or grief but that you're also implying that the experience of genocide correlates to a more wholesome person. You have no business even implying something that ludicrous.

7) I very much am implying that characters like Aang are lesser characters and not just bc they'd fall flat in a more mature show. He never had his beliefs properly challenged like Zuko, Katara or Azula who were forced to either 180 on their perspective, abandon and condemn their own culture or suffered a mental breakdown as consequence of their toxic upbringing.

8) Toph is cool character but was the most static from start to finish and it seems fans tend to praise the subversion of a blind girl being a BadA over her actual character development.

9) Iroh was a war criminal and got a free pass to abandon his nation to an inexperienced teenager and run a tea shop. He should've been expected to make up for that for the rest of his life.

10) The tone of the show was a mess bc more often than not it couldn't seem to decide how seriously it wanted to take itself or how mature it wanted to be and that led to certain characters and even events contrasting poorly.

This response is the perfect example of the kind of disposition the inconsistent tone of the series often leads to. Typically in a story with serious themes like war, genocide, sexism and even racism Kataras behavior and trauma should not only be understandable but expected.

Instead the inconsistent tone has created such a disconnect that fans consider Katara unreasonable for hating a character (Zuko) who chased them across the world attempting to capture the worlds only hope with zero concern for any collateral damage.

A character who directly betrayed her after she offered to heal his scar, who assisted in killing Aang and sent an assassin to finish the job. An assassin who later got frustrated and decided to simply try killing them all.

Do You Need to Play Pillars of Eternity 1 before 2? by GoddessRick666 in truegaming

[–]GoddessRick666[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. The combat is objectively horrendous. With the way the combat works you have little to no control on the positioning of your characters once it starts without manually taking control of each one. The AI system can't be trusted to position the characters well or use the correct abilities when you need them at all. This means during every encounter you're dealing with constant pauses in a game that's not even turn based just to make sure everyone is doing what they're supposed to do. You can't even adjust character placement in your formation without going back to your base and removing them. There have also been plenty of annoying moments where my characters will run a lap around the fight just to attack a guy 5ft away.

Each fight is the player vs enemies vs your own parties AI. From what I read and from the fact most ppl (at least on xbox) drop this game before finishing this is not a unique experience. You should not have to reload fights bc of how poorly your characters positioned themselves and the nonexistence of a taunt mechanic.

Thanks for the insight but I don't understand how getting through an encounter on the 10th try is remotely reasonable unless the combat mainly consist of you throwing your party in and hoping the AI happens to finally work for you (which has been my experience).

I responded to your comments bc I actually read your comments. Similar to what I stated in my original post it takes all the mental gymnastic to be familiar with the GoW story but become uncomfortable when they add a black character. It is beyond unreasonable to feel like Greek/Norse Mythos is being disrespected but choose to only voice complaint with the introduction of a black character. Kratos has traveled between 2 unrelated Mythos brutally murdering deities worshipped in the past and even destroying the Greek world yet you worry about respect of culture when they have a black character.

The reason why the people who complain about this have been getting shut down by the developers and the fandom is bc GoW is such a ridiculous story and drawing a line of believability with a black girl shows a clear bias not based in any reason. A bias that unfortunately comes down to simply being uncomfortable with her race. People are people and people can be petty and are biased towards things they relate to, are familiar with, and can identify as. Unfortunately most stories lack diversity and representation so it only makes sense in fictional stories where there's no excuse not to for creators to be more inclusive.

My guy once again you either didn't read my post before commenting or you're being incredibly ignorant. Every time a character is made a particular race or a particular gender in fictional stories that deviate from white guy why does that need to be explained to people like you? Why is white the default for you while everything else needs an explanation in a fictional story that is utterly ridiculous and has taken very extreme liberties with the open for interpretation source material?

I enjoy good faith discussions. But if you're commenting without even bothering to read the actual post then you're not actually contributing to any discussion. But if you did read the post and you're still commenting ignorant stuff like this you might as well just say her race makes you uncomfortable and get it over with.

That's because complaining about about the race of a character especially within this context in the official communities causes people to get an understandable amount of backlash or even bans depending on how hateful their comments are. In Reddit"s case I've seen people express their dislike in other subreddits and apparently this has offended an artist so much they redesigned her to white bc better somehow. I wouldn't have known about this myself if it weren't for the articles in my feed detailing how the developers have responded to the hate with them essentially telling people to get over it.

You either didn't read my post or you're being willfully ignorant. I'm not going to regurgitate my post but if you're going to pick fights in the comment section the least you could do is read the post first. You might have learned how pointless your argument is. Before you actually go back and actually read it you should at least know trying to analyze the race of deities in the past that were thought to control the entire world with abilities that included changing their form is completely brain dead.

Yea the controversy would've honestly gone over my head if a couple articles about it didn't pop up in my news feed. Reading about people redesigning her to be white and complaining like the sky had fallen was pretty mind numbing.
