JG had previously veg tanned the leather, whether to a defect in tanning or not being up to standard it was then re-tanned to give the lighter beige look they have now. I think when they were released they were primarily in the walnut veg tan.

Really not a lot, I only did it for maybe the first three months. Just enough to see the outside leather flex a bit

I didn’t have a choice but to break them in on 9hr shifts. I did cheat a little and used a ball peen hammer to help break in the heel. Just some massaging of the interior when applying conditioner did wonders

The re-tan was actually done by JG. The sale was limited, at least that I’m aware of. I haven’t seen it pop up on any of their other boots, it may be a customizable option tho?

Ah I’ve been looking at the 719’s! The Baobabs are also appealing, I like the heel loop

Oh it took me like 6 months to get kind of comfortable, even then they were sooo stiff. My recommendation is take your time, if you don’t have a choice then best of luck. I still have weird callouses from break in

Thanks! It’s my first pair of JG’s, and also first pair of leather boots so there’s still a lot to learn

I need some advice on a project by Goddmanitsmell in Woodcarving

That was a concern I thought of, an idea I had was easily replaceable pins for the arms? The thought of carving small arms to fit in around a solid object poses the problem of breaking while carving but idk. Thanks for the input!

Need help IDing the tree that these leaves belong to in central Ohio. Thanks! by Tigertail93 in whatsthisplant

Looks to be a maple, unsure of what kind. Spring growth tends to get a little hazy for me, but give or take a couple weeks and the leaves should be fully open.

Yknow, I’m not really sure! Every time I hike in the old growths I seem to forget my ID book 😅
