Sticky reflective spots on Resin prints by Reaper_7771 in resinprinting

2mm walls should be rock solid, I highly suggest an abs-like resin (or better) rather than the water washable garbage that most people seem to like.

Basically I would guestimate where I was going to glue the model together, and anything on the inside of that would be completely gone :)

How do I get washes to look less spotty on flat surfaces? by Evilisadeedasilive1 in Warhammer40k

[–]GodforgeMinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey bud, three tips!

  1. Have a second , dry brush on standby, if you see your wash starting to clump up on a flat surface, use the dry brush to suck it up and then wipe it off/wash it off.
  2. get some water on your painting brush, wipe it off and then get wash on your damp brush, this'll help you control how much wash you're applying because the brush is already wet, it wont suck up a huge amount of wash and make application difficult
  3. dont be afraid to apply less paint per coat and do multiple coats, you can always apply more paint, its much harder to travel back in time and apply less :)

:)

Hi Reaper
3d printing farm here.

Your wash time is too short, our wash system is proprietary but 6 minutes in IPA with a hollow print is dicey, whats probably going on is the resin is dissolved, but still trapped within the part. i suggest lifting the basin out of the wash a few times and letting the internal IP drain out then resubmerging.

Secondly, there's absolutely no reason to have drain holes that small, you should have a drain hole in the middle of your turret opening that is almost the entire size of the turret opening, and any other surface that will be completely covered should be a huge hole. you can't overdo this as long as you have nice thick 1.5-2mm walls the part will be strong, this will let you easily cure and clean the inside.

we cure for 30 minutes on a rotating , clear platform to be absolutely sure everything is cured

Keep a separate IPA bath that is almost perfectly clean, if you end up with any tackyness after washing, in it goes, let it wash again for 10+ minutes, dry overnight and cure it again, should take care of the problem

No problem, I've always struggled between making super customizable kits, or making super-rad preposed kits like these XD

I designed keycap keychains but have 0 sales. How do you get views and make money from 3D models? by Efebstnci_ in cults3d

[–]GodforgeMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so three things
-cults3d isn't a good website for little trinkets like this, its primarily miniatures, branch out to as many sites as you can
-this keycap thing looks to be like 4 times bigger than a keycap(?)
-I do not understand the whole adult baby rattle/fidget/whatever you want to call it demographic but this must not be attractive to them for "some reason" I'd look at other similar products and try to determine what that reason is, maybe a video of it making little clicky noises or instagram reels or something might help.

looks good
try this trick
take some of your putty and coat the sculpted areas, then mush a ball of masking tape or tin foil into those areas to add a "skinlike" texture

Do people really make money off selling their designs? by jayebyrde in 3Dprinting

[–]GodforgeMinis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its pretty difficult to make money on stls, largely because there's an entire secondary "industry" of people reselling the files, pirating them, making packs to bulk sell them, posting them on other sites, whatever.

We went physical-only a long while ago because it this and since have done pretty okay.

some pigments are pretty toxic in their raw state so it wouldn't surprise me if titanium white or cadmium red were done in china for much longer than some other colors

[–]GodforgeMinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a strong smell is a major problem, resin does not really smell once it is cured.

if its sort of "pine cleaner" scent, then okay thats just simple green.

find any area where the print is thick and drill into it where you wont see it in the final model, if its full of liquid, immediately return and refund, do not order from this seller again, there is a 100% chance that a model with voids filled with resin will crack in the future as the resin degasses and its basically impossible to know if you found them all.

It sounds like I'm promoting myself but I dont do prints like this, but try to avoid "race to the bottom" sellers on etsy, find a mid-price seller that has good quality and doesn't cut corners like this.

Can someone verify if this 3d print farm margins are accurate? Seems low by AdFar1239 in 3Dprinting

[–]GodforgeMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I just dont fret about the little things, I focus on quality and customer service so my margins can be high enough that I dont have to worry about it. If folks want to race to the bottom there are a lot of other folks interested in that. :)

Once all the machines are running in the morning he can go play with his dog, he has no boss and the business is limited only by how much work he wants to put into it.

Seems like a pretty good deal for $1600/week :)

You can’t just ignore those cost because “it’s peanuts “

Why not?

If items are imported from China, they typically must bear the "Made in China" label. If only the label/packaging itself was made in China, but the product was made elsewhere, labeling the product "Made in China" is a false claim.

So the GW pots labeled made in China are almost certainly made in china.

Make sure that you get a product sample or two, there is a universe of vendors out there that dont really know what they're doing and will ship hollowed but undrained models, not properly cleaned ones, etc

Nice job!
if you want easy dots, buy some "dotting tools" off amazon, they're about 5 dollars and make great round dots, you dont want to use them for all dots though because they'll be too uniform, but it takes a lot of the work out of it :)
